COTLI: Silver and Jeweled Chests Opening Update

Hail and well met Crusaders!

The normal Silver and Jeweled chests tend to pile up, don't they? Especially if you're doing Sprints for chests. And while we do have up to a x100 button for opening chests, that doesn't make opening hundreds of thousands of chests super easy.

Well, today's update introduces bigger versions of these chests, to help you clean up your chest inventory.

Mega and Ultimate Silver chests

There are two new Silver chest types on offer: the Mega Silver chest and the Ultimate Silver chest.
  • Mega Silver Chest
    • Costs: 1,000 Silver chests.
    • Contains a fixed amount of items, equivalent to opening 1,000 Silver chests: Common to Rare Buff Cards and Trinkets, Gold, and a set amount of Common Crafting Materials, based on your level of the Scrap Hoarder talent at the time of opening the chest.

  • Ultimate Silver Chest
    • Costs: 20,000 Silver chests, or 20 Mega Silver chests.
    • Contains a fixed amount of items, equivalent to opening 20,000 Silver chests: Common to Rare Buff Cards and Trinkets, Gold, and a set amount of Common Crafting Materials, based on your level of the Scrap Hoarder talent at the time of opening the chest.

Mega and Ultimate Jeweled chests

While they are rarer, Jeweled chests can still build up, so there are also two new Jeweled chest types on offer: the Mega Jeweled chest and the Ultimate Jeweled chest.
  • Mega Jeweled Chest
    • Costs 1,000 Jeweled chests.
    • Contains a fixed amount of items, equivalent to opening 1,000 Jeweled chests: Uncommon to Epic Buff Cards, Time Warps and Trinkets, a set amount of Epic Crafting Materials and Legendary Catalysts, and a set amount of Common Crafting Materials, based on your level of the Scrap Hoarder talent at the time of opening the chest.
    • If you're still missing any skins for the base 20 Crusaders, then opening a Mega Jeweled chest will guarantee a skin drop as well, in addition to the rest of the content.

  • Ultimate Jeweled Chest
    • Costs 10,000 Jeweled chests, or 10 Mega Jeweled chests.
    • Contains a fixed amount of items, equivalent to opening 10,000 Jeweled chests: Uncommon to Epic Buff Cards, Time Warps and Trinkets, a set amount of Epic Crafting Materials and Legendary Catalysts, and a set amount of Common Crafting Materials, based on your level of the Scrap Hoarder talent at the time of opening the chest.
    • If you're still missing any skins for the base 20 Crusaders, then opening an Ultimate Jeweled chest will guarantee a skin drop as well, in addition to the rest of the content.

You can find these new chests in the Store dialog. When you go to open them, they also respect the x10, x25 and x100 toggles. As well, there are also achievements for opening all 4 chest types.

Happy spring inventory cleaning!

COTLI: Dev Blog: All Tier Easter Jeweled Chests

Hail Crusaders,

On Monday morning we were made aware of an issue affecting All Tier Easter Jeweled chests. From the launch of the event on Thursday until Monday at 11am PT, the All Tier Easter Jeweled chests did not have the ability to drop gear for the new Tier 5 Crusader Dr. Almquist. This issue was fixed shortly after we received the reports.

While the number of affected players was very very low, and many players who opened the chests would not have missed out on any contents at all, we feel that some compensation would be fair. Therefore, anyone who opened these chests during the time period they were bugged will receive additional free All Tier Easter Jeweled chests based on the number of these chests they opened (at a rate of 1 compensation chest for every 4 chests opened). Affected players will receive these chests the next time they reload the game or start a new objective.

We would like to extend our thanks to the players who reported this issue as soon as they noticed it.

Idle Champions: Locked Chests & Combinations
Posted in Idle Champions.

Have you been frustrated that the in-game codes we and our partners give away could not be redeemed on your platform?

Well, fret no more, because there's a new system to redeem codes on all platforms as of today! Read on to find out how to redeem a new 12-character combination, how to enter an old 16-character code, and get a combination for a Gold Chest to try it out!

What previously were "codes" for free in-game items are now "combinations" for a Locked Chest that is always available in the game. Locked Chests can be accessed in 2 different ways depending on your platform.

Xbox One and PlayStation 4

On consoles, you can access the new "Locked Chest" redemption system in one of two ways:
  • On your inventory screen, you'll see a new Locked Chest icon as your first chest. If you select that chest, it'll bring you to the Locked Chest combination screen!

  • Otherwise, when you access the store, you'll see a new option in the upper right to "Unlock a Locked Chest". Select Y (Xbox) or Triangle (PlayStation 4) and it'll bring you to the Locked Chest combination screen!

All other platforms

On the rest of the platforms, you can access the new "Locked Chest" redemption system in one of two ways:
  • You'll see a new Locked Chest in the upper right side of the chest screen. If you select that chest, it'll bring you to the Locked Chest combination screen!

  • Otherwise, when you access the store, you'll see a new option in the upper right to "Unlock a Locked Chest". Select that and it'll bring you to the Locked Chest combination screen!

What about old codes?

On all platforms, if you have an old 16-character code, you'll see an option to switch to a 16-character combination in the lower left-hand corner of the combination screen! We'll be moving our partners to the new 12-character system in the coming weeks, so you might still see some 16-character codes popping up here and there.

Can I try it out?

Sure! Log into the game and enter this combination for a free Gold Chest!

Idle Champions: Chest and Potions Update
Posted in Idle Champions.

Today we're excited to release a major update for chests and potions. You'll need to read the change log or the developer blog for the most details, but the gist of the update is that chests are way better now! They drop more things you needs, fewer things you don't, and there are more bonuses for purchasing packs!

We hope you enjoy this update, which is the first of a series of major systems updates planned for early 2018.

Features:

  • Massive chest and potion changes. See below for details. Read the developer blog for additional detail.
  • To celebrate the new chests, we're running a chest sale from now until Tuesday, February 13th at noon PST. Get up to 25% more chests on pack purchases of 7 or more chests.
  • Added a "Next Chest" button after opening a chest, which lets you open another chest without having to click the chest selector on the left again.

Balance Changes:

  • Chests will now always attempt to drop an upgrade if one is available (without adjusting the rarity of the items in the chest).
  • Purchased chest packs of 7 chests or more will now include guaranteed shiny items. See the store page for more details.
  • A one-time lot of "Potions of Polish" have been added to the inventories of players who have made purchases in the past, based on total amount spent. These potions can be used to upgrade a random loot item to be "shiny".
  • Potions of Heroism (+health) have been removed from the chest drop table, however existing potions will remain in your inventory.
  • Existing "Potions of Fire Breath" have been renamed "Expired Potion of Fire Breath".
  • New "Potions of Fire Breath" have been added that do damage based on your party dps rather than a fixed percentage of the monster health.
  • New "Potions of Specialization" have been added to the chest drop tables that can be used to reset any specialization choices you have made on the run.
  • Potion durations have been updated based on rarity. The new durations are as follows: Common: 5 minutes. Uncommon: 15 minutes. Rare: 60 minutes. Epic: Until you complete your current adventure. (Expired fire breath potions are excluded from this change).
  • New Blacksmithing Contracts have been added to chests. These new contracts increase the loot level (not rarity) of a random piece of loot owned by a selected Champion; can only be used on Champions with all 6 gear slots filled.
  • Cooldown reduction (both normal and ultimate cooldowns) has been capped at 75%.
  • Gear item levels are now more powerful (250 level to double instead of 1000).

Changes:

  • Chest packs are now opened separately from normally earned chests. When opening chests from packs, a new dialog will display any guaranteed shinies that you will earn from the pack. Note that only packs purchased after the update will be shown in this way. Previously purchased packs' chests simply appear in your normal stash.

Fixes:

  • Fixed an issue with the area 10 boss in Rescue in the Jungle.
  • Fixed an issue with the area 45 boss in Rescue in the Jungle.
  • Fixed an issue where Azaka's portrait didn't show up correctly in a couple of cinematics.
  • Fixed a grammatical issue with Stoki's tips.
  • Fixed several other typos.

Coming Soon:

  • Loot level caps on cooldown reduction gear so that you won't get any more duplicates of that gear or have them be targets for Blacksmithing Contracts if your cooldown reduction is already capped (sooner rather than later).
  • A rework of offline gold to bring it more in line with gold earned while the game is open (also soon).
  • New ways to approach clicking in the game (somewhat soon).
  • Updated to health, healing, and tanking specs to make tanking a more viable alternative (after everything else).

Dev Blog: Upcoming Changes to Chests and Potions
Posted in Idle Champions.

Well met everyone! Justin here. I'm the lead systems designer on Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms. I wanted to take some time to discuss some upcoming changes we're making to chests, loot, and potions. I'm going to be on our weekly stream tomorrow, February 8th, to discuss these in more detail, so watch for that.

We've been hearing for a while now from many players, both spenders and non-spenders, that the experience of opening chests in Idle Champions isn't ideal. Too many duplicates, too many sub-par potions, and taking too long to get the gear you want. We want to address those concerns as best we can, so we've put together the ultimate chest, loot, and potions update.

Before we begin, there are five main goals that we had for this update:

1) We want to make chests more fun to open.
2) We want to make chest packs more desirable and more worthwhile to purchase.
3) We want to make duplicates show up less. More upgrades! Less filler!
4) We want to make duplicates you do get more worthwhile.
5) We want all potions/buffs to be desirable so there are no bad items in chests.

So what are we doing? Well, several things, actually:

1) Guaranteeing upgrades (if possible) in every chest. While we're not changing the distribution of rarities in chests, we are making it so that every chest contains at least one upgrade, if possible. This means that if you open a gold chest, and you don't have all of the rare loot for the champions that the chest drops loot for, you're guaranteed an upgrade. Keep in mind, if you don't have all the uncommon items, this upgrade may be an uncommon, so we're not promising a rare upgrade in every chest (until you have all of the uncommon items). It's also important to note that if you have all the rare loot from that chest, we're not promising an epic in every chest, but when you DO get an epic, we'll guarantee that it's an epic you don't already have (unless you have them all). This change will make it so that it's literally impossible to not have a fully rare'd event Champion within 10 event chests, and if you purchased chests, a fully epic'd event Champion within 50, though in actuality the average number of chests for each is much lower. The purpose here is to remove the bad luck that people can sometimes experience if the RNG gods are not in their favor.

2) Guaranteeing shiny loot in purchased packs. We want to reward people who purchase chest packs for real money. After all, without them we wouldn't be able to continuously release new content for the game (or even keep the servers on). With that goal in mind, we've restructured the chest opening screen so that purchased chest packs are displayed separately from normally earned chests. When opening chests from a chest pack, your progress through the pack will be displayed, and a number of "shiny" card slots will be displayed on the pack. We'll distribute the shiny cards that fill these slots throughout the chests in the pack, so you've always got something to look forward to with your purchase. As a thank you to our existing purchasers, we'll be distributing "Potions of Shininess" to people who have bought chest packs in the past. You can find those in your inventory and they can be used from there to shiny-ize one piece of loot you own at random.

3) Increasing the power of loot levels. Right now it takes 1000 loot levels to double the effect on a piece of loot. We're reducing the number drastically so that earning duplicate loot can have more of an impact on your game. We don't have a final number for you yet, but we're hoping to strike a good balance between not being too OP and not taking forever to come into effect.

4) Adding Blacksmithing Contracts. Speaking of loot levels, Blacksmithing Contracts are new buffs randomly earned in chests. They can be used from your inventory on a specific Champion to increase the loot level of one of their pieces of loot at random. They come in all rarities from common to epic, and increase the loot levels the same as if you'd earned a duplicate item of that rarity. The ability to target your loot level upgrades (including on event Champions which you otherwise could not improve) should be an interesting new avenue of optimization in the game.

5) Other Potion Drop Changes. We're removing the Potion of Heroism from the drop table in chests, because health is pointless right now (more on that in a future dev blog). We're also adding a new rare drop: the Potion of Specialization. This new potion, when used on a specific Champion, will reset any specialization choices you've made on that adventure, giving you a do-over in case you want to change your mind later on. Finally, we're removing the Potion of Fire Breath from the drop table. Now, wait, I know what you're thinking! Don't panic! We're adding a NEW Potion of Fire Breath back into all chests, and your old, existing potions will still work the same way as before, so if you've got a stockpile it's still around and you can still use it. The new type of potion will turn your mouse-clicks into mini-ultimates. Each click will do damage to enemies based on your party DPS rather than a fixed percentage. This means that these new potions will crush through normal trash mobs, instead of tickling them like before, while also still be useful at destroying bosses that your Champions are having trouble with on their own. The big difference is that with the new potions you won't be able to push forward infinitely (given infinite potions), which was a balance concern for us that we are happy to finally address.

6) Potion Duration Changes. Oh, one final thing about potions. We've gotten a lot of feedback from people saying they don't feel useful because they expire so quickly. With that in mind, common potions will now last 5 minutes (up from 1 minute), uncommon will last 15 minutes (up from 2 minutes), rare potions will now last 60 minutes (up from 4 minutes), and epic potions will last until you reset your adventure. These changes will be retroactive to all your existing potions except for the old-style Fire Breath potions. Sorry!

7) And About Offline Gold. We're finally taking a pass on offline gold gains, bounty contract gold gains, and silver chest gold gains. They're too low in many cases and we're hoping to solve that with this update.

So that's about the long and short of it. What do you think? We'd love to get your feedback on the steam forums, in discord, in-game chat, and on the stream tomorrow. We're hoping to get these changes out very soon, but nothing is set in stone if you guys have a really great idea that we didn't think of (or steal already while lurking in the chat).

Until next time!

The Case of the Warrior in Japan

Sasha, the Fierce Warrior, recently arrived back at the office after a trip to Japan. However, her movements and whereabouts remain a mystery which piqued the interest of Detective Kaine. His naturally inquisitive personality coupled with the secret nature of Sasha's trip are too much for Kaine to resist.

Our resident sleuth has started a journal documenting his investigation into her journey. Specifically, he has discovered that two keywords relating to her trip will unlock a jeweled chest within Crusaders of the Lost Idols.

You can follow along with Kaine's investigation as he tries to crack The Case of the Warrior in Japan by signing-up to the Idol Times newsletter. Each email will contain more clues from his notebook, of which the first pages his notes are available below.

If you can solve the mystery, you can enter the code into the in-game shop to earn a free jeweled chest. Please note the code is only valid on PC/Web, but you can link your account to mobile using these instructions.
