Idle Champion Spotlight: Miria
Posted in Idle Champions.

Few have the cunning and capacity to resist the overwhelming power of Lord Soth. But this ambitious necromancer managed to break free of his trap, and now is relentlessly hunted across Krynn. Miria Elithren knows there are other realms, and with considerable determination and ruthlessness she seeks to escape to the worlds beyond!

I. Miria

Born under an ill-omen of the Dark Moon, Nuitari, Miria had an unhappy childhood that caused her to flee her homeland and seek tutelage in advanced magical arts beyond Elven lands. After passing the Test of High Sorcery, she briefly allied with Lord Soth until he tried to turn Miria into an undead creature subservient to his will. Miria escaped Soth’s trap at the cost of the flesh and muscle of her right arm.

Miria is a Tanking and Support Champion that protects the formation with her undead servants. Once unlocked, you can find this shadar-kai necromancer in Slot 12 opposite Arkhan.

III. Miria's Design

When we bring an affiliation of Champions into our game, it can be difficult to find a way to include the Dungeon Master of that group. Idle Champions Presents: Fury of the Black Rose offered a unique opportunity to work with the fantastic Mark Hulmes as more than the DM for High Rollers. They created a brand new character crafted specifically for both the livestream and the Idle Champions roster, with a unique backstory connected to the game and an interesting power set for the Champion!

Miria is a formidable necromancer with training in advanced magical arts, but she knows supporting the formation with her undead powers is the best way to ensure her own safety. Her training as a Mage of High Sorcery helps her increase the damage of all adjacent Champions, and that bonus is increased for every defeated enemy she captures in her Soul Cage. She helps buff the front-most column of the formation by sending her Zombie Bodyguards up to absorb damage, and will use Life Transference to increase the health of all Champions so they can soak up more damage. If none of these protective measures help keep Miria alive, she has one more contingency in place with a stash of clones that she can draw from to regain her health!

Miria's Specializations determines the type of heroes that she prefers to have in the formation, and will increase the attack bonus of Mage of High Sorcery for each Champion who fits her requirements. Lawful Champions can be Methodical and she appreciates their predictability. Those that show they have a high intelligence appeal to her Intellectual nature. But she also respects those that are unaffiliated for remaining Independent. When adversaries come close, Miria will fire a Ray of Sickness at the nearest one to weaken them. And when her bodyguards are not enough, she will cast Danse Macabre to summon five skeletons to the battlefield and command them to brutally attack her enemies!

IV. Miria's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Ray of Sickness - Miria fires an energy ray at the nearest enemy, dealing one hit of magical damage and the target's damage is reduced by 50% for 6 seconds. Does not stack.

Formation Abilities

  • Mage of High Sorcery - Miria increases the damage of all adjacent Champions by +100%.
  • Soul Cage - When an enemy is defeated, Miria can capture its soul and gain a Soul Cage stack. Her maximum number of Soul Cage stacks is 1 for every 20 areas completed in the current adventure, rounded up. Miria increases the damage bonus of Mage of High Sorcery by 25% for each Soul Cage stack she has, stacking multiplicatively.
  • Zombie Bodyguards - While Miria is alive, a Zombie Bodyguard that shares hit points with Miria appears in front of each Champion in the front-most column of the formation. When a Champion in that column takes damage, the Zombie Bodyguard takes 90% of the damage instead, while the original target takes the remaining 10%.
  • Clone - Miria maintains a stash of clones in her Inner Sanctum with a count equal to her Soul Cage stacks. If Miria is defeated, a clone immediately appears and takes her place at full health. This does not reduce the number of Soul Cage stacks she has. Her stash of clones are regenerated when the party changes areas. For each clone summoned in the current area, the effect of Mage of High Sorcery is increased by 25%, stacking multiplicatively.
  • Life Transference - Miria increases the health of all other Champions by 1% of her max health for each Soul Cage stack she has, stacking additively.

Specializations

  • Methodical - Miria increases the attack bonus of Mage of High Sorcery by 25% for each Lawful Champion in the formation, stacking multiplicatively.
  • Intellectual - Miria increases the attack bonus of Mage of High Sorcery by 25% for each Champion with an INT score of 15+ in the formation, stacking multiplicatively.
  • Independent - Miria increases the attack bonus of Mage of High Sorcery by 25% for each Unaffiliated Champion in the formation, stacking multiplicatively.

Ultimate Ability

  • Danse Macabre - Miria summons 5 skeletons to the battlefield. The skeletons deal 15 attacks to the enemies before vanishing. All enemies are slowed by 50% for the duration due to the confusion on the battlefield.

Idle Champion Spotlight: Solaak

Face your foes with bravery and boldness, be confident in yourself and in those around you, and be smart enough to know when it's a losing battle, and you will gain the respect of Solaak the Drakewarden Ranger. This noble Kalashtar rides atop his mentor Tempest, a fearsome lightning drake, and the pair are always together both on the ground and in the air. And now they are together in the Idle Champions formation!

I. Solaak

Being telepathic means Solaak knows who to trust, and sadly that’s not many people. But when the Kalashtar found the soul of a dragon trapped in a chasm, they formed a bond of trust like no other. Solaak now rides his dragon mentor, Tempest, into battle, and together they are unstoppable!

Solaak is a Support Champion who excels at ranged attacks, as well as aiding others who attack from a distance. Their shots are even more inspiring as he fires while riding his fierce dragon companion! Once unlocked, you can find this ranger in Slot 2 opposite Celeste.

II. Solaak's Stats

Race: Kalashtar Alignment: Neutral Good

III. Solaak's Design

Our community is already familiar with the wonderful Gabe Hicks thanks to his appearance in Season 2 of A Familiar Quest. They have an extensive resume as a game designer, voice actor, cosplayer, and both player and GM for many livestreams. We were very excited to work together to craft a fully unique character, one that would join the Idle Champions Presents: Fury of the Black Rose cast as well as becoming a Champion in our roster!

The Drakewarden Solaak is a bit different from the usual Champion. Instead of fighting in the formation, Solaak rides his dragon companion Tempest into battle just behind the rest of the Champions. Meanwhile their pet pseudodragon Levits takes his spot in the formation in order to help pass along any positional formation abilities. With his custom-carved longbow in hand, Solaak fires a Knockback Strike at the closest enemy, damaging and pushing them away from the formation.

Their focus is on supporting other ranged Champions. He appreciates those Compatriots who also have a ranged base attack, and gains a Reach stack for each of those Champions in the formation. The bigger the stack, the bigger the damage increase for all ranged Champions! When an enemy is knocked back by any Maneuvers, the damage bonus he grants his Compatriots is increased. For each Reach stack Solaak has, he increases the effect of all outgoing positional formation abilities for all ranged Champions. And the more stacks they have, the greater the chance that ranged Champion base attack cooldowns will instantly reset.

Solaak can specialize in three different ways. If he is Unwavering then he will attack faster and increase the effect of Maneuvers. If they become Emboldened then his attacks will harm a small radius of enemies, and those hit will take additional damage. Or he can be a Confidant and add a Reach stack for each formation slot occupied by an escort. While they usually strike from the back of the formation, when the time for an ultimate attack is right Solaak and Tempest will fly over the battlefield. The drake's lightning breath scours his enemies, sending them flying back stunned!

IV. Solaak's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Knockback Strike - Solaak fires an arrow at the closest enemy, dealing 1 hit and knocking it back a short distance.

Formation Abilities

  • Drakewarden - Solaak's pet pseudodragon Levits takes Solaak's slot in the formation while Solaak rides his drake companion, Tempest, into battle. He attacks from Tempest. If Levits is knocked out by enemies, Solaak and Tempest retreat from the battlefield until you change areas.
  • Compatriots - Solaak gains a Reach stack for each Champion with a ranged base attack in the formation (including himself). Each stack increases the damage of these Champions by 400%, stacking multiplicatively.
  • Maneuvers - The effect of Compatriots is increased by 25% each time an enemy is knocked back, stacking multiplicatively to a max of 50 stacks. Stacks reset when changing areas.
  • Critical Mass - Solaak increases the effect of the outgoing positional formation abilities of all Champions with a ranged base attack by 25% for each Reach stack he has, stacking additively.
  • Blitzing Barrage - Each time a Champion with a ranged base attack attacks, there is a 5% chance per stack of Reach that their base attack cooldown is instantly reset.

Specializations

  • Unwavering - Solaak's base attack speed is reduced by 2.0 seconds. Additionally, the effect of Maneuvers is increased to 30% per stack.
  • Emboldened - Solaak's normal attack deals damage to all enemies in a small radius and all enemies hit take an additional 400% damage for 5 seconds.
  • Confidant - Each formation slot occupied by an escort adds 1 Reach stack for Compatriots.

Ultimate Ability

  • Tempest - Solaak flies over the enemies on Tempest's back while Tempest's lightning breath deal 1 hit of ultimate damage, knocking them back a medium amount and stunning all enemies for 5 seconds.

Idle Champion Spotlight: Brother Uriah
Posted in Idle Champions.

It can be difficult to find faith in the domains of dread, and almost impossible to find a truly good person. Which is why Brother Uriah is absolutely exceptional, and a cherished member of the Black Dice Society! He is the final member of that affiliation to join Idle Champions, and brings his do-good nature to the roster during Grand Revel 6.

I. Brother Uriah

Dungeons & Dragons Uriah Midwinter
Brother Uriah Macawber is a native of Ravenloft, born in the dread domain of Darkon under the iron rule of Azalin Rex. After a horrifying childhood encounter at the Carnival with the demonic entity known as The Caller, Uriah would embrace the worship of the goddess Ezra, Lady of the Mists, offering protection from the forces of darkness to all those in need. Upon joining with the other future members of The Black Dice Society, Uriah would go on to find friendship, true love, and dark truths about himself and his past.

Brother Uriah is a Support and Healing Champion that completes the Black Dice Society affiliation. As a faithful Cleric of Ezra, Brother Uriah heals nearby champions as well as increasing their damage. In stressful situations, he becomes possessed by the spirit of Azalin Rex. While possessed, he increases the damage of Nahara and any Evil champions in the formation. Once unlocked, you can find this human cleric opposite Makos in Slot 9.

II. Brother Uriah's Stats

Race: Human Alignment: Lawful Good
Class: Cleric Gender: Male Pronouns: He/Him
Age: 33
Affiliation: Black Dice Society

STR: 10 DEX: 10 CON: 12
INT: 12 WIS: 22 CHA: 15

Role: Support, Healing
Eligible for Patrons: Mirt, Zariel
Slot: 9 (Makos)

III. Brother Uriah's Design

The Idle Champions community is very familiar with Mark Meer and the excellent work he does as an actor, voice over artist, and TTRPG player in a huge variety of places. He's also helped us bring Baeloth the Entertainer to life in the game as well as several seasons of Idle Champions Presents! But this is the first chance we've had to bring in a Champion he has created wholly himself.

Dungeons & Dragons Fen

Brother Uriah is designed to work well with the Black Dice Society affiliation, featuring multiple positional formation abilities for Valentine, a dead/escort synergy for Desmond, a buff for Nahara and evil champions, and is the first healer for the group. With Doomed in Darkon he increases the damage of Champions in his column and behind, while healing all Champions within two slots of him with Ezra's Embrace. After a while he succumbs to being In The Grip of Azalin Rex, who focuses on increasing the damage of Nahara as well as all evil Champions in the formation.

There are two different books that Brother Uriah can choose from when picking a specialization. The Book of Exalted Deeds encourages the destruction of Undead and Fiends, making them his Favored Foes and buffing all Champion damage against them. But if he chooses the Book of Vile Darkness he'll further increase the damage bonus to Nahara and all evil Champions. Brother Uriah prefers to attack damaged enemies with Toll the Dead, and when a more Ultimate attack is necessary he will create a Blade Barrier that whirls across the screen, slashing at enemies with razor-sharp blades of magical energy!

IV. Brother Uriah's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Toll the Dead - Brother Uriah points at a random enemy and deals one hit of magical damage. Brother Uriah prefers to attack enemies that are already damaged.

Formation Abilities

  • Doomed in Darkon - Brother Uriah increases the damage of all Champions in his column and the column behind him by +100%.
  • Ezra's Embrace - Brother Uriah heals all champions within two slots for 5 health per second. This effect is increased by 25% for each formation slot containing a dead champion or an escort, stacking additively and applying multiplicatively.
  • In the Grip of Azalin Rex - After 100 normal attacks by Champions in the formation, Azalin Rex takes over Brother Uriah for 20 seconds. While controlled by Azalin Rex, Brother Uriah increases the damage of Nahara and all evil Champions by +1000%.

Specializations

  • Book of Exalted Deeds - Brother Uriah reads from the Book of Exalted Deeds, making Undead and Fiends his Favored Foes and all Champions deal +200% damage to them.
  • Book of Vile Darkness - Azalin reads from the Book of Vile Darkness, increasing the effect of In the Grip of Azalin Rex by 100%.

Ultimate Ability

  • Blade Barrier - Brother Uriah creates a wall of whirling, razor-sharp blades of magical energy to appear in front of the formation, quickly slides across the screen, ending close to where enemies are spawned. Each enemy that passes through the barrier (or has the barrier pass over) takes one hit of ultimate damage. The barrier lasts for 10 seconds after it reaches its final location. If an enemy is pushed back through it and/or walks through it a second time they take another hit.

Slot 2: Doomed in Darkon

Idle Champion Spotlight: Fen
Posted in Idle Champions.

The mists of Ravenloft are full of stealthy hazards and creeping horrors. But this traveler from the Underdark is just mischievous and dangerous enough to survive!

Fen left her home to protect her family, and arrived in the domains of dread to find a new one. She joins her companions from the Black Dice Society in the Idle Champions roster during Midwinter 6!

I. Fen

Dungeons & Dragons Fen Midwinter
This Drow Dhampir Warlock has a touch of mischief and sneakiness, but she's loyal to those she cares for and a fearsome opponent for those who have earned her hate. Above all else, everything Fen has done has been for Isolde's freedom. Now she needs a new purpose to fight for, and maybe she can find it among the Society.

Fen is a DPS and Support Champion, and is the newest Black Dice Society member to join the formation. In addition to buffing the damage of Champions in her column, this Warlock/Rogue increases the attack speed of all Warlocks in the formation. Finally, she's keen to help you finish any Patron challenges you might still be facing. Once unlocked, you can find this Dhampir Drow in Slot 6 opposite Asharra.

II. Fen's Stats

Race: Dhampir Drow Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Class: Warlock/Rogue Gender: Female Pronouns: She/Her
Age: 200
Affiliation: Black Dice Society

STR: 14 DEX: 14 CON: 16
INT: 13 WIS: 12 CHA: 14

Role: DPS, Support
Eligible for Patrons: Mirt, Vajra, Strahd, Zariel
Slot: 6 (Asharra)

Dungeons & Dragons Fen

III. Fen's Design

It's a rare treat to get the opportunity to work with a creator for several different characters, so we're thrilled to welcome Tanya DePass back to help us craft Fen from the The Black Dice Socity in Idle Champions! Previously we added her paladin Selise from the Rivals of Waterdeep, and she helped create Fenris the Dire Wolf Pup as a charity familiar. Outside of the work she has done with us, Tanya is the founder and Director of I Need Diverse Games, part of the development team behind Into The Mother Lands, and a prolific writer and consultant on a variety of projects.

Fen likes to get the job done as quickly as possible, so she focuses on making warlocks like herself faster and more deadly. She increases the damage of herself and all the Champions in her column because she is Mischievous, but Dangerous. That effect is boosted for fellow wise Champions or those from the Black Dice Society as she says I've Got You, Friends. She helps anyone who has made a Warlock Pact by increasing their attack speed, and her Patron's Oath means patron challenge progress will happen faster.

Depending on which Specialization Fen takes, she will focus on either her DPS or Support abilities. When the whole formation needs help, she'll call on the Shadows of the Underdark to imbue her blade with eldritch energy, increasing the effect of Mischievous, but Dangerous. If Fen embraces the Curse of the Dhampir she'll greatly boost her own damage. With her regular attack she darts out to slash at the closest enemies with her Pact Blade, and her Ultimate attack lets her take on her Form of Dread. Draconic wings sprout from her back and she leaps into the air to charge across the battlefield in a flurry of slashes and knockbacks!

IV. Fen's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Pact Blade - Fen darts out to the closest enemy and slashes with her longsword, dealing 1 hit to all nearby enemies.

Formation Abilities

  • Mischievous, but Dangerous - Fen increases the damage of all Champions, including herself, in her column by 100%.
  • Warlock Pact - Fen reduces the normal attack speed of all Warlocks, including herself, in the formation by 0.1 seconds for each point of Wisdom an adjacent Champion has above 10.
  • I've Got You, Friends - Fen increases the effect of Mischievous, but Dangerous by 100% for each Champion in the formation that is either a Black Dice Society affiliation member or has a Wisdom of 15+, stacking multiplicatively and then applying multiplicatively.
  • Patron's Oath - While Fen is in the formation and you are in a patron variant or free play, patron challenge progress made by her party is increased by 100%.

Specializations

  • Shadows of the Underdark - Fen imbues her blade with eldritch energy, increasing the effect of Mischievous, but Dangerous by 100% and causing her normal attack to deal an additional 5 seconds of BUD based damage with each hit. Buffs of this ability increase the effect of Mischievous, but Dangerous.
  • Curse of the Dhampir - Fen embraces her Dhampir heritage and increases her damage by 1000%.

Ultimate Ability

  • Form of Dread - Fen transforms into her dread form. She sprouts wings, leaps into the air, and charges directly across the screen, dealing one hit of ultimate damage to all enemies she passes and knocking them back a short distance.

Idle Champion Spotlight: Warduke
Posted in Idle Champions.

“I speak with the flames and razor-sharp edges of my sword. They beat words to hell.”

No one knows what Warduke looks like under his dread helm. He never removes that helmet to reveal his face to others, only showing his piercing, red, glowing eyes. This Simril he dons that signature helmet again to take his place in the Idle Champions roster!

I. Warduke

Warduke's services as a remorseless killer-for-hire can be easily bought. The evil swordsman isn't terribly bright, which is why he leaves the plotting and scheming to others. He just likes to hit things with his sword.

This deadly warrior is a Tanking and DPS Champion who grows more powerful the more he swings his sword, all while inverting the positional formation abilities of the other Champions. Once you have unlocked his services, you can swap Warduke with Delina in Slot 8.

II. Warduke's Stats

Race: Human Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Gender: Male Pronouns: He/Him
Age: 39 Class: Fighter

STR: 19 DEX: 11 CON: 17
INT: 9 WIS: 11 CHA: 11

Role: Tanking, DPS

Eligible for Patrons: Mirt & Vajra

Slot: 8 (Delina)

Dungeons & Dragons Warduke Marketing Gif

III. Warduke's Design

Fans of D&D will recognize Warduke from his most recent appearance in The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, working for the League of Malevolence as they try to acquire a powerful staff. But this imposing warrior has been in the D&D world for over 40 years, including appearing alongside Dungeon Master in the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon, and becoming an action figure produced in the 1980s! He's even a foe our players have already encountered in Idle Champions, so it's fun to be able to secure his services to help the Champions instead!

Warduke is A Trained Killer who relishes in battle, becoming more powerful every time he attacks or takes damage. He's often seen serving The League of Malevolence, as the odious assemblage of villains provides a convenient arrangement for achieving his goals. As a Bodyguard for the Highest Bidder he'll make sure his employers stay alive long enough to pay him, increasing the health of all Champions in the formation. However if a better offer were to come along, he would have no qualms about changing his allegiances. Those chaotic tendencies affect the rest of the Champions as well. Warduke inspires a Chaotic Inversion of positional formation abilities. This means when Champions in the formation have an ability that only affects certain slots, he will invert it so it affects the opposite slots instead! He's also Drawn to Power as his damage is increased for each positional formation ability affecting him.

This evil swordsman will work for anyone who has the coin, but Specializes in a few specific formations. If Chaos Reigns then Warduke will increase his damage for every fellow chaotic Champion in the formation. Or he can draw power from other evil Champions as if surrounded by the League of Malevolence. But if getting paid is all that matters, this Mercenary for Hire will hit harder the more gold find Champions there are! With his epic sword Nightwind in hand, Warduke is a deadly foe as he leaps forward to slash through multiple enemies. And when it's time to turn up the heat, Nightwind ignites into a Flame Tongue Sword so Warduke can deal the ultimate amount of damage possible!

IV. Warduke's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Nightwind - Warduke moves up to the closest enemy and swings his sword, dealing one hit to all nearby enemies with a melee attack.

Formation Abilities

  • A Trained Killer - Each time Warduke attacks or is damaged, he gains a Remorseless stack. Warduke increases his damage by 100% for each Remorseless stack he has, stacking additively. Stacks are reset when traveling to a new area.
  • Bodyguard for the Highest Bidder - Increase the health of all Champions by 25% of Warduke's max health.
  • Chaotic Inversion - Most positional formation abilities' targets are inverted. Affected abilities will have "(Inverted)" appended to the ability name everywhere it is used.
  • Drawn to Power - Warduke's damage is increased by 100% for each positional formation ability affecting him, stacking multiplicatively. Buffs apply to the pre-stack multiplier.

Specializations

  • Chaos Reigns - Warduke's damage is increased by 100% for each chaotic Champion in the formation, stacking multiplicatively.
  • Mercenary for Hire - Warduke's damage is increased by 300% for each gold find Champion in the formation, stacking multiplicatively.
  • League of Malevolence - Warduke's damage is increased by 500% for each evil Champion in the formation, stacking multiplicatively.

Ultimate Ability

  • Flame Tongue Sword - Warduke's sword Nightwind ignites in flames for 30 seconds. For the duration, Warduke deals an additional 1000% damage with his normal attacks and he takes half damage from all sources.

V. Warduke's Epic Equipment

Slot 1: Self DPS
Slot 2: A Trained Killer
Slot 3: Drawn to Power

Storms can be beautiful displays of raw energy, or dangerous heralds of destruction. It takes someone calm, cool, and collected to harness and wield that power.

Virgil is a friendly, easy going aasimar who is happy to work together and peacefully avoid a fight. But don't be fooled by his calm demeanor, with a snap of his fan he is ready to summon a storm! He joins the rest of the Rivals of Waterdeep in the Champion roster during the Feast of the Moon!

With unexpected and unwelcome Celestial heritage, Virgil was always trying to get away from both his past and a disapproving family. He put his talents to work on the sea, traveling with crews who he hoped would ask nothing more than that he earn his keep by way of his magic. Eventually he grew tired of wandering and ended up in the quiet lakeside town of Caradoon, thinking he might put down roots. But that all changed when he met and fell for a kindred spirit in the form of a charming and witty Tiefling named Kent. After some over-enthusiastic handling of the local tavern's rat problem, they found themselves on the move again. Fortunately they met Selise Astorio of the Rivals of Waterdeep, and while quickly becoming entangled in the group's adventures they discovered a new family and a new home.

Virgil is a support and speed Champion who is the master of lightning speeds! He makes the attacks of adjacent Champions faster, and speeds up progress if the formation is quickly dispatching enemies. Once unlocked, Virgil and his storm sorcerer powers can be found with Tyril in Slot 10.

III. Virgil's Design

For anyone interested in learning about Brian Gray, their website includes years of wonderful content as a writer and streamer with blogs, reviews, recipes, and more. In the TTRPG community they are well known for their performances on many streams, including as a voice over artist for Into The Mother Lands, and our own Charity One Shot celebrating the release of Disco the Baby Moonstone Dragon familiar! We're extremely excited to bring their Rivals of Waterdeep character to Idle Champions just as their 14th season has begun, and as a bonus can enjoy Virgil striving to save the multiverse in Idle Champions Presents Hunger of the Far Realm!

As a Storm Sorcerer, Virgil is all about offering lightning quick buffs, causing adjacent Champions to do more damage as well as attack faster. If enemies are being defeated quickly, he'll be impressed by the Rapid Fire and increase the chance that those creatures drop double quest items or count for double quest progress. Virgil also harnesses the energy to Weather Control, increasing Champion damage every time the weather changes. All of these buffs are intended to help keep the formation alive, but if a Champion is knocked out, Virgil has a Surprise Mood: Angry! That anger bleeds into his attacks, making his normal Magic Missiles turn red, and causing any enemy he hits to take a lot more damage! He's especially protective of his partner Kent, and since the two of them are Inseparable, where one goes the other can follow.

Virgil's mood can be seen in the color of his attacks, and changing his Specialization also changes the power he is focusing on. If his mood is Relaxed, his Magic Missile and Chain Lightning attacks turn green as he increases Storm Sorcerer's damage bonus, as well as helping Champions attack even faster. Amber colored attacks means he's Anxious, increasing the number of Magic Missiles he fires and adding a chance to stun an enemy he hits. If there are plenty of other Rivals of Waterdeep Champions in the formation he will feel Determined, and his violet attacks indicate that his Weather Control damage boost is greatly increased.

If Virgil has had enough of being attacked, the weather will change to thunder as he summons a fearsome bolt of Chain Lightning! This powerful electric discharge forks as it strikes multiple enemies, laying waste to anyone attacking the formation.

Dungeons & Dragons Spelljammer Virgil

IV. Virgil's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Magic Missile - Virgil summons 3 magic missiles and fires them at random targets.

Formation Abilities

  • Storm Sorcerer - Virgil increases the damage of all adjacent Champions by +100%, and decreases their normal attack speed cooldown by 1 second.
  • Weather Control - Virgil gains a Weather stack each time the weather changes when advancing to a new area or when it's changed by an ultimate attack or other ability. Virgil tracks each type of weather in a separate stack. Each stack is multiplied by 10% and then all stacks are multiplied together to get a total value which increases the damage of all Champions. Each stack caps at 500.
  • Rapid Fire - Enemies that are defeated within 2 seconds of being on screen have a 5% chance to drop double quest items or count for double quest progress for each Rivals of Waterdeep Champion in the formation, stacking additively.
  • Surprise Mood: Angry - While a Champion in the formation is knocked out, Virgil's magic missile and chain lightning attacks turn red and any enemy he hits with his base attack takes an additional 1000% damage for the next 5 seconds. If an enemy is hit again, the timer is reset but doesn't otherwise stack.
  • Inseparable - If Kent qualifies for an adventure restriction based on his tags, age, ability scores, etc., Virgil may be used as well.

Specializations

  • Mood: Relaxed - Virgil's Magic Missile and Chain Lightning attacks turn green, and he further increases Storm Sorcerer's damage boost by 100% and increases the attack cooldown reduction by a further 1 second.
  • Mood: Anxious - Virgil's Magic Missile and Chain Lightning attacks turn amber, he increases the number of Magic Missile's he fires by one, and there is a 25% chance he stuns an enemy struck by a Magic Missile for 5 seconds.
  • Mood: Determined - Virgil's Magic Missile and Chain Lightning attacks turn violet, and Virgil increases Weather Control's damage boost by 33% for each Rivals of Waterdeep Champion in the formation, stacking multiplicatively.

Ultimate Ability

  • Chain Lightning - Virgil attacks a random enemy with a bolt of lightning dealing ultimate damage. Every 0.10 seconds, the lightning bolt attacks another random enemy until 20 enemies are struck or no enemies remain. In addition, the area's weather changes to thunder.

Idle Champion Spotlight: Kent
Posted in Idle Champions.

Exploring ancient temples can lead to astounding archaeological discoveries, but also devastating consequences. However some Champions remain confident in their fabulous capabilities rather than let the dark memories sour their levity!

Kent is a trained archeologist whose blade is as sharp as his outfits. He joins his fellow Rivals of Waterdeep Gazrick, Shaka, Selise, and D'hani in the Champion roster during Liar's Night!

I. Kent

Dungeons & Dragons Kent Eugenio

Kent is a former archaeologist turned adventurer whose Rogue skills and powers over death were honed by spending months making his way through the temple of Talona, where the rest of his archaeological research team was killed by traps and monsters. When he finally returned home to the lakeside town of Caradoon, he was the same outgoing, flamboyant Tiefling he had always been, but now it seemed to mask a darkness that Kent has since done his best to keep hidden. Fortunately for him, he doesn't have to bear the darkness alone, because not long after his return to Caradoon, he met smart, capable, and patient Aasimar named Virgil. Together they met up with Selise from the Rivals, and joined her and the rest of the crew in Waterdeep.

Kent is a support and DPS Champion who collects soul trinkets representing the highest level boss defeated in each campaign, which he uses to buff himself and Champions in his column. In addition, he increases the effectiveness of your achievement bonuses for the adventure he is on. Once unlocked, you can find this tiefling rogue with Jarlaxle in Slot 4.

Dungeons & Dragons Kent

III. Kent's Design

Eugenio Vargas is a New York City based singer, actor, and music director who has extensive experience both on and behind the stage. With a love of performing and gaming, he's become well known in the TTRPG industry for his amazing work, including as the DM and producer for The Last Refuge podcast, the Storyteller for Into the Mother Lands, and a writer and designer on many D&D products including Fizban's Treasury of Dragons for Wizards of the Coast. He is already well known to the Idle Champions community for his work on A Familiar Quest and The Pear Passage charity one shot, so we're very excited to bring his Rivals of Waterdeep character to the game!

Kent is all about making the formation more effective by celebrating your previous achievements. As you defeat bosses across all our Campaigns, Kent collects Tokens of the Departed, and increases the damage of himself and all Champions in his column. The more powerful the boss, the higher the damage bonus! He'll also make all the Champions more powerful by adding a bit EXTRA! using your current Achievement bonus. With a wealth of experiences to draw from, Kent is an adept at attacking nearby enemies with his Rapier, and Remembering the Old Days helps makes his attacks even more effective. But this rogue doesn't have to go it alone! After Virgil's release, you'll find that the two of them are Inseparable and where one goes, the other can follow.

If the formation is filled with his fellow Rivals of Waterdeep, Kent can specialize in increasing the attack bonus of Tokens of the Departed for each of those Robust Rivals. Or he can focus on his Potent Poison to add poison damage to all of his attacks. When Kent gets serious about defeating enemies, he calls on the Wails from the Grave to change the weather to an eerie fog, and call on ghostly spirits to help Kent deal some Ultimate damage!

IV. Kent's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Rapier - Kent strikes the closest enemy with his rapier.

Formation Abilities

  • Tokens of the Departed - Kent keeps a soul trinket of the highest level boss defeated in each campaign and the best event where he was present at the bosses' defeat. Kent increases the damage of all Champions in his column (including himself) by 10% times the sum of all levels from his soul trinkets.
  • Remembering the Old Days - Each time Kent or the ghostly spirit from his Ultimate attacks, he gains a Nostalgia stack that lasts until entering a new area. Kent increases his damage by +50% for each Nostalgia stack, stacking multiplicatively and then applied multiplicatively. Buffs are applied to the post stack value, and Nostalgia stacks are capped at 25 stacks.
  • EXTRA! - Kent's force of personality emboldens his companions. Kent increases the damage of all Champions by your current Achievement bonus.
  • Inseparable - If Virgil qualifies for an adventure restriction based on his tags, age, ability scores, etc., Kent may be used as well. Note: this won't be enabled until after Virgil's release!

Specializations

  • Robust Rivals - Kent increases the attack bonus of Tokens of the Departed by +100% for each Rivals of Waterdeep Champion, stacking multiplicatively and applied multiplicatively.
  • Potent Poison - Whenever Kent attacks an enemy and doesn't kill it, it is affected by a virulent poison. The poison deals 400% of your BUD to the enemy each second for 4 seconds.

Ultimate Ability

  • Wails from the Grave - For 30 seconds, when Kent makes a normal attack, a ghostly spirit briefly appears and makes an attack dealing ultimate damage, on another random enemy if possible. Additionally, the weather changes to fog.

Idle Champion Spotlight: Egbert
Posted in Idle Champions.

"I'll do my best, but no promises. But I'll do my best. But no promises!"

Finding atonement for past deeds can lead people in many different directions. Egbert stumbled into a life of adventure with the Oxventurers, and now uses his paladin powers to try to keep the team safe, even as he's impulsively running into danger first! He now joins fellow members Dob, Merilwen, Rust on the Harbour, Corazón and Prudence in the Idle Champions roster during Higharvestide 6.

I. Egbert

Dungeons & Dragons Egbert Key Art
Clumsy but well-meaning, Egbert the Dragonborn Paladin was summarily booted out of his Paladin order after a terrible incident he doesn’t like to talk about. Setting out on his quest for atonement with a new deity in tow, La Vache Mauve, he falls in with the Oxventurers Guild and, by his reckoning, questing with them offers as good a chance as any of guiding him towards absolution. Often impulsive, he very rarely plans beyond his initial moment of ‘inspiration’ but his heart’s in the right place. Well, at least until he next rushes into battle, trips into a spike pit and it ends up kebabbed on a skewer…

Egbert is a Tanking, Support, Healing, and Gold Find Champion who seeks atonement after being kicked out of his Paladin order. Does he make amends for is past transgressions, or will his companions lead him astray? He can be added to the formation by swapping him out with Minsc (Slot 7).

II. Egbert's Stats

Race: Dragonborn Alignment: Chaotic Good
Class: Paladin Gender: Male Pronouns: He/Him
Age: 24
Affiliation: Oxventurers Guild

STR: 18 DEX: 14 CON: 14
INT: 10 WIS: 8 CHA: 18

Role: Tanking, Support, Healing, Gold Find
Eligible for Patrons: Mirt, Vajra, Zariel
Slot: 7 (Minsc)

III. Egbert's Design

Dungeons & Dragons Egbert gif

Mike Channell is the latest member of the Oxventurers crew that we have had the pleasure to work with! This automotive enthusiast and racing driver fan is a writer and presenter for Outside Xbox, who can drive a race car both in videogames and in real life. While we couldn't fit Ginetta G40 into our formations, it was great fun to bring his dragonborn paladin into Idle Champions!

Egbert constantly struggles to Atone for the Past, but it can be difficult when he spends so much time with his chaotic friends. He gains Atonement points for every lawful Champion in the formation, and loses them for every chaotic Champion. Fortunately his damage buff is based on the number of Atonement points he has squared! That means filling the formation with his Oxventurers crew will push his Atonement points into the negative, but his buff will still be in the positive!

Many of his other abilities use the absolute value of the number of Atonement points Egbert has, so once again the goal is to maximize the number of lawful or chaotic Champions in the formation. That will push that number as high as it can go, either positive or negative! That absolute value will affect how much healing he will offer the most damaged Champion when he uses Lay On Hands, how much he increases the health of all other Champions with his Friendly Protection, and how much more gold find his Golden Scales will provide. He'll also increase the effect of Atone for the Past for each enemy on screen because he believes the More the Merrier.

Egbert's first specialization determines if neutral Champions will add or subtract from his Atonement points. His second specialization lets him focus more on support, healing, or gold find. For his normal attack, Egbert always has some Homemade Bombs to throw at the nearest enemy. But when things get dire and he needs more than just bombs, he can seek divine intervention from La Vache Mauve! This Ultimate attack causes the epic sight of La Vache Mauve to appear in the sky, inspiring the Champions to do more damage and forcing the enemies to take more damage!

IV. Egbert's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Homemade Bombs - Egbert lights the fuse of a bomb with a puff of fire from his mouth and throws it at the nearest enemy. It explodes, dealing 1 hit to all enemies in a small area and knocking them back a short distance

Formation Abilities

  • Atone for the Past - Egbert has a number of Atonement points equal to the number of lawful Champions in the formation minus the number of chaotic Champions in the formation, not including Egbert himself. Egbert increases the damage of all Champions behind him by +100% times the number of Atonement points he has squared.
  • Lay On Hands - After Egbert makes a base attack, if there is a Champion below 50% hit points (including himself), he heals the most damaged Champion for 10 times the absolute value of the number of Atonement points he has.
  • Friendly Protection - Egbert increases the health of all other Champions by 5% of his max health multiplied by the absolute value of the number of Atonement points he has.
  • More the Merrier - Egbert increases the effect of Atone for the Past by 100% for each enemy on the screen and each point of enemy/boss enrage, stacking additively and then applying multiplicatively.
  • Golden Scales - Egbert increases the global gold find by 100% times the absolute value of the number of Atonement points he has.

Specializations

Egbert's first specialization determines if neutral Champions, on the lawful/chaotic axis, add or subtract to Egbert's Atonement points.
  • Atonement Begins with an Apology - The number of neutral Champions, on the lawful/chaotic axis, in the formation is added to Egbert's Atonement points.
  • Team Chaos Team - The number of neutral Champions, on the lawful/chaotic axis, in the formation is subtracted from Egbert's Atonement points.
Egbert's second specialization determines if he focuses on support, healing, or gold find.
  • Smoky Bombs - Egbert's bombs now also create smoke clouds that lasts for 10 seconds. Enemies in one or more smoke clouds have a 50% chance to miss with their attack and take an additional +400% damage from attacks.
  • Health Kick - Egbert's Lay On Hands targets the two most damaged Champions and the amount of healing is increased by 100%.
  • Oxventure Capitalism - Egbert increases the effect of Golden Scales by 100% for each Oxventures affiliation member in the formation, stacking multiplicatively.

Ultimate Ability

  • La Vache Mauve - Clouds come down from the top of the screen and part, revealing the sun which rotates to reveal the head of La Vache Mauve. Radiant light shines out and illuminates the area. Enemies take ultimate damage, and the Champions deal +1000% damage for 20 seconds.

V. Egbert's Epic Equipment

Slot 1: Global DPS
Slot 2: Gold Find Increase
Slot 3: Health Increase
Slot 4: Atone for the Past
Slot 5: Second Specialization Increase
Slot 6: Ultimate Attack

VI. Conclusion

Will you surround Egbert with lawful Champions so he can find the atonement he's searching for? Or will he enjoy formations filled with the Oxventurers crew? We're excited to hear all about how much you are enjoying having Egbert in your formations on the Idle Champions Subreddit, on the Steam forums, or on the Official Idle Champions Discord!

Idle Champion Spotlight: Dob
Posted in Idle Champions.

This relentlessly upbeat bard is happy to help wherever he can, and never lets a little thing like 'not having a plan' stand in the way of action!

Dob is a traveling entertainer, busking from town to town looking for his lost sister. His travels have lead him to the Oxventurers Guild, and he now joins fellow members Merilwen, Rust on the Harbour, Corazón and Prudence in the Idle Champions roster during Brightswords 5.

I. Dob

Dungeons & Dragons Dob Key Art
Dob never knew his parents. When he fell ill as a baby, his sister Suzette searched far and wide for a cure. She successfully saved his life, but on the last of her trips out to find medicine, Suzette never returned. So Dob became a self-taught traveling bard, sleeping under the stars and roaming town to town in search of his lost sister. This brought him into contact with the Oxventurers, with whom he shares in many bizarre adventures, including one that did indeed see him reuniting at last with his long-lost sister!

Dob is a Support and Gold Find Champion, increasing the damage of Champions not next to him while boosting gold find based on how many Champions are adjacent. He has the unfortunate habit of dumping all that hard-found gold into a nearby lake to keep it safe, but he'll make sure to make it up to the formation! He can be added to the formation by swapping him out with Arkhan (Slot 12).

II. Dob's Stats

Race: Half-Orc Alignment: Chaotic Good
Class: Bard Gender: Male Pronouns: He/Him
Age: 28
Affiliation: Oxventurers Guild

STR: 12 DEX: 18 CON: 17
INT: 13 WIS: 14 CHA: 18

Role: Support, Gold Find
Eligible for Patrons: Mirt, Vajra, Strahd, Zariel
Slot: 12 (Arkhan)

III. Dob's Design

Dungeons & Dragons Dob

Most of our community will know Luke Westaway from his work on Outside Xbox and Outside Xtra, but he's also the designer behind the sci-fi racing tabletop RPG Gravity RIP. As an accomplished singer/songwriter, it's no surprise he crafted the Half-Orc Bard from the Oxventurers crew. It is a pleasure to work with Luke and have Dob play his hard-rocking lute in our game!

Dob is an energetic music-maker who is enthusiastic about helping his friends fight enemies and keep their earnings safe. This Traveling Entertainer inspires anyone not next to him to be more powerful. If he needs to leap into the action himself, he can cause a Thunderwave by playing a chord on his Lute. Dob also makes sure to keep Busking to increase the formation's gold find, but heavy purses make him nervous. There's a chance he'll run off with the team's money, using his Offshore Accounting to stash the cash in a lake. When he returns from that deposit, he'll make up for it by increasing his damage and gold find bonuses.

As an accomplished and charismatic bard, Dob gets along with a wide variety of people! Depending on who he's hanging out with, he'll increase the Traveling Entertainer attack bonus. Befriend the Magical will focus on Oxventurers Champions or Champions with a magical base attack, Befriend the Friendly is all about those with a high Charisma or Oxventurers Champions, Befriend the Quick focuses on Dexterous or Oxventurers Champions, or if there's a lot of unique races in the formation he can just Befriend Everybody! When things look dire, Dob raises Ethelfrith's Hammer into the air to unleash a horde of skeletons on his enemies, pushing them back behind a wall, and boosting the power of all evil Champions!

IV. Dob's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Thunderwave - Dob leaps out to the closest enemy and plays a chord on his Lute that sends out a magical blast of thunder and lightning, dealing 1 hit to all enemies in the area and pushing them back a short distance.

Formation Abilities

  • Traveling Entertainer - Dob increases the damage of all Champions NOT next to him by 400%.
  • Busking - Dob increases global gold find by 30% for each Champion next to him, stacking multiplicatively.
  • Offshore Accounting - At the transition to each new area, there is a 25% chance that Dob runs off with a wheelbarrow of money, setting the Champion's gold amount to zero as he dumps all the Champions' money into a lake. He gains Deposit stacks equal to the exponent of the lost gold. Dob increases both the damage increase of Traveling Entertainer and the gold find bonus of Busking by 10% for each Deposit stack, stacking additively and applied multiplicatively.

Specializations

  • Befriend the Magical - Dob increases the attack bonus of Traveling Entertainer by +100% for each Oxventurers Champion or Champion with a magical base attack, stacking multiplicatively and applied multiplicatively.
  • Befriend the Friendly - Dob increases the attack bonus of Traveling Entertainer by +100% for each Oxventurers Champion or Champion with a Charisma of 17 or higher, stacking multiplicatively and applied multiplicatively.
  • Befriend the Quick - Dob increases the attack bonus of Traveling Entertainer by +100% for each Oxventurers Champion or Champion with a Dexterity of 17 or higher, stacking multiplicatively and applied multiplicatively.
  • Befriend Everybody! - Dob increases the attack bonus of Traveling Entertainer by +100% for each unique race in the formation, stacking multiplicatively and applied multiplicatively.

Ultimate Ability

  • Ethelfrith's Hammer - Dob raises Ethelfrith's hammer into the air, causing 60 skeletons and one flameskull burst out of the ground. The flameskull oversees the skeletons building a wall of stone, and any enemies in the area where the wall is being built take ultimate damage and are pushed back by the skeletons behind the wall. The wall lasts for 20 seconds and for that time enemies cannot pass it. While the wall is present, Evil Champions deal +1000% damage for reasons best left unsaid.

Slot 1: Global DPS
Slot 2: Gold Find Increase
Slot 3: Traveling Entertainer
Slot 4: Befriend

Idle Champion Spotlight: Voronika
Posted in Idle Champions.

Achieving any goal while trapped in the mists of Ravenloft can be exceptionally difficult. But our next Champion has the cunning to get what she wants, even when Darklords and death stand in her way!

Voronika has wandered the mists as a ghost, traveled the domains of dread imbued into a sword, and taken over the land of her youth. Now she joins her fellow Black Dice Society companions in the Idle Champions roster during Ahghairon's Day 5.

I. Voronika

Dungeons & Dragons Voronika Key Art
This young Eladrin woman was raised to be the Queen of Koshmarr. What was meant to be an idyllic life took a dark turn when she was killed on the night of her wedding. But Voronika didn't let death stop her, even as she was pulled into the machinations of greater powers. Using her excellent intelligence and observational skills, as well as a lot of cunning and manipulation, she used the crown of the Raven Queen to defeat Zybilna and cause the fall of Prismeer. This action drew the mists to Voronika, and she became the new Darklord of her domain of Koshmarr.

Voronika is a Support Champion that allies with evil Champions and members of the Black Dice Society. With help from her Inner Circle Champion, she ultimately must complete three goals to claim the Crown of the Raven Queen and transform into a Darklord. Once unlocked, you can swap this Eladrin Druid with Bruenor in slot 1.

Dungeons & Dragons Voronika

III. Voronika's Design

We were thrilled to have Vee Mus'e join Codename Entertainment as our Partner & Talent Manager, and then to continue that work creating her character in Idle Champions! She has a notable presence in the D&D community as a professional Dungeon Master, writer, player, and mini painter, showing off her skills on our Twitch channel every Friday on Paint and Slay! Her YouTube channel has a wealth of resources, instructional videos, and advice for anyone wishing to learn more about crafting and mini painting, and you can enjoy her D&D performances on a multitude of shows, including The Black Dice Socity.

Voronika's goal is to find the Crown of the Raven Queen, which will enable her to transform into her incredibly powerful Darklord form. To do this, she chooses one Champion to join her Inner Circle. Her Search for the Crown requires her to reach a high enough level, defeat many monsters while her Inner Circle Champion is part of the formation, and use enough Ultimates from any Champion. When her goals are complete and she acquires the crown, she becomes the Darklord of Koshmarr, increasing the damage of her Produce Flame, and unlocking her Horrifying Visage Ultimate attack!

While she may be focused on her personal goals, Voronika also aids the formation with some Calculating Guidance, increasing the damage of all evil Champions and Black Dice Society members in the column in front of her. The more Ultimate attacks that are used, the stronger her Calculating Guidance becomes as the formation demonstrates their Ultimate Power. Her ghostly form reminds anyone who has effects that care about dead Champions that she was Wed, then Undead.

All of this requires Voronika to select one Champion to become her focus. Her first Specialization offers three potential Inner Circle Champions to choose from, and once that Champion is picked they gain entry into the Black Dice Society. Voronika then uses her second Specialization to decide if she wants to Assist the Puppet and boost that Champion's power, or Dispose of the Fool and help others as she sends her chosen Champion away.

IV. Voronika's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Produce Flame - Voronika creates a flame in her hand which she fires at a random enemy. If Voronika has achieved her Darklord form, the target is lit on fire and takes 1 second of BUD damage every second for 5 seconds.

Formation Abilities

  • Wed, then Undead - After being killed on her wedding night, Voronika became a ghost. Voronika counts as "dead" for the purposes of effects that care about dead Champions, but "alive" for all other purposes. She still counts as "dead" even after reaching her Darklord form. She can be attacked like normal and she can be "killed", at which point she stops granting all effects like any dead Champion would.
  • Calculating Guidance - Voronika increases the damage of all Champions in one column in front of her by +100% for each Champion in the formation that is either a member of the Black Dice Society or Evil. This stacks additively until Voronika completes her Search for the Crown, when it changes to stack multiplicably.
  • Search for the Crown - Voronika's search for the Crown of Raven Queen requires her to complete 3 goals. When Voronika completes all 3 goals, she acquires the crown, transforms into her Darklord Form, unlocks her ultimate attack, and improves her base attack.
  • Ultimate Power - Voronika increases the effect of Calculating Guidance by +10% for each use of an Ultimate while she is in the formation, stacking additively and applied multiplicably. Caps at 1,000,000 stacks. These stacks persist until reset.

Specializations

Voronika's first specialization dynamically displays 3 potential Champions. The Champion chosen becomes a member of Voronika's Inner Circle.
  • Inner Circle - Voronika chooses a Champion to be her Inner Circle champion. They gain the Black Dice Society affiliation membership if they don't already have it. Voronika displays herself if there aren't enough choices.
Voronika's second specialization offers benefits depending on if the Inner Circle Champion is kept in the formation, or removed.
  • Assist the Puppet - Voronika's Inner Circle Champion gets an increase depending on the Champions roles. Champions with multiple roles get all the benefits. Support will increase the effects of the Champion's positional formation abilities, DPS will have Calculating Guidance applied to them at all times, and applies twice if they're in the correct column, and Tanking Champions will have their overwhelm value increased by 10.
  • Dispose of the Fool - After Voronika has achieved her Darklord form, she increases the effect of Calculating Guidance by +100% while her Inner Circle Champion is not part of the formation.

Ultimate Ability

  • Horrifying Visage - Voronika moves in front of the party, magically pushing back all monsters a short distance. All enemies take ultimate damage, and then all surviving enemies deal 90% less damage for 30 seconds. In addition, the boss/enemy enrage timer fills 200% slower for 30 seconds.

V. Voronika's Epic Equipment

Slot 1: Global DPS
Slot 2: Global DPS
Slot 3: Calculating Guidance
Slot 4: Ultimate Power
Slot 5: Ultimate Attack Damage
Slot 6: Ultimate Attack Cooldown

Conclusion

Will you help Voronika on her quest for the crown? She offers many enticing rewards for Black Dice Society members, and the whole formation, if you do! Let us know on the Idle Champions Subreddit, on the Steam forums, or on the Official Idle Champions Discord if you enjoyed aiding in the creation of a Darklord!
