Idle Champion Spotlight: Shadowheart
Posted in Idle Champions.

"Everyone has to suffer, it's a fact of life."

How far would you go to serve your deity? Shadowheart was willing to lose her memories and undertake a perilous mission, all in devotion to the Goddess of Darkness and Loss. But an Illithid tadpole has made her journey much more complicated. Fortunately she has a new group of Champions to help her on her quest!

I. Shadowheart

A devoted cleric of Shar, Shadowheart agreed to have her memories wiped as part of a holy mission. Now its sole survivor, she must deliver a powerful relic back to her kin in order to win Shar's love and have her memories restored – but all the while, she is tormented by strange, painful magic that she struggles to understand.

Shadowheart is a Support and Healing Champion who joins her fellow Baldur's Gate 3 companions in fighting the transformation into a Mind Flayer. Once unlocked, you can find this Half-Elf Cleric in seat 6 opposite Asharra.

II. Shadowheart's Stats

Race: Half-Elf Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Gender: Female Pronouns: She/Her
Age: 48 Affiliation: Absolute Adversaries Class: Cleric

STR: 12 DEX: 14 CON: 14
INT: 10 WIS: 16 CHA: 10

Role: Support, Healing

Eligible for Patrons: Vajra

Seat: 6 (Asharra)

III. Shadowheart's Design

As a pragmatic cleric, Shadowheart focuses on straightforward buffs and excels at healing. Champions within two slots of her have their damage increased, and because she also carries a Mind Flayer tadpole in her brain, she can tap into its power to boost her damage buff even more. She keeps the two columns ahead of her healed all while she calls mystical lunar flame down to damage her enemies. But Shadowheart has a tricky skill she can use to create a copy of herself. This illusory duplicate hides next to the Champion with the highest Dexterity, and offers buffs and heals to nearby Champions similar to Shadowheart herself.

Shadowheart can choose one of three Specializations to give an extra boost to her already impressive buffs. One choice dramatically increases her buff to the Champions in front of her if her illusory duplicate stands by her side. Another selection boosts her support if her duplicate is far from her in the formation. The final option means Shadowheart stops attacking and focuses on helping others do damage, so she'll cast Guidance on the biggest damage dealer in your formation. Repeatedly. The mysterious relic that Shadowheart carries can also be called upon when things are looking dire. It flies into the air and sends out a pulse of power, striking back enemies and making the formation immune to damage for a moment!

This daughter of darkness may be guarded with her past, but she will use all of her cleric skills to support her fellow Champions on their mission!

IV. Shadowheart's Abilities

Basic Attack

Shadowheart has two normal attacks: her base attack (Sacred Flame) and one that is enabled by a specialization choice (Guidance).
  • Sacred Flame - Shadowheart raises her mace into the air and casts a spell, briefly engulfing a random enemy in mystical lunar flame, dealing 1 hit.
  • Guidance - Shadowheart increases the damage of your BUD-setting Champion's next attack by 200%, stacking multiplicatively up to 5 times.

Formation Abilities

  • Twilight Trickery - Shadowheart increases the damage of Champions within two slots of her by 100%.
  • Ceremorphosis - Your formation gains one Ceremorphosis stack due to the mind flayer tadpole in Shadowheart's brain. Shadowheart increases the effect of Twilight Trickery by 100% for each Ceremorphosis stack, stacking multiplicatively.
  • Light In The Dark - Shadowheart heals Champions in the two columns ahead of her for 10 every second.
  • Invoke Duplicity - Shadowheart creates an illusory duplicate of herself which hides in the formation and applies Twilight Trickery and Light in the Dark to Champions relative to itself with half the range as normal. The duplicate positions itself in the same formation slot as the Champion in the formation with the highest DEX score. Ties go to the Champion in the highest bench seat.

Specialization

  • Guidance - Shadowheart's base attack is replaced by Guidance. When she casts Guidance, she increases the damage of your BUD-setting Champion's next attack by 200%. Stacks multiplicatively up to 5 times.
  • Sister of Darkness - If Shadowheart's Illusory Duplicate is placed in the same slot as she is, increase the effect of Twilight Trickery by 400%.
  • Find Yourself - The effects of Twilight Trickery and Light In The Dark from Shadowheart's Illusory Duplicate are increased by 100% for each formation slot away from Shadowheart the duplicate is (following the shortest path), stacking multiplicatively.

Ultimate Ability

  • Absolute Sanctuary - Shadowheart raises her artefact, which flies into the air and sends out a circular pulse, dealing a massive hit to all enemies and knocking them back a short distance. In addition, your Champions are immune to all damage for 10 seconds or until you change areas, whichever is shorter.

III. Jang Sao's Design

Most Idle Champions fans will recognize Gina Darling from her numerous appearances on TTRPG streams like Legends of the Multiverse. But she also has a long career as a TV host for G4TV and WWE, and streams a variety of games on her Twitch channel. We were delighted to work with her to craft a brand new Champion to join the Idle Champions ranks, as well as our latest Idle Champions Presents series, Fatebreaker!

Collecting all of the stars in the universe can take a long time, but Jang Sao is dedicated to her art no matter how long the journey. She uses those stars to boost the damage of Champions in formation slots with 2 or fewer neighboring slots, and her star collection persists between adventures. Which means the more she travels, the stronger she becomes! And if the Champions in the formation have equipment with Pigments added, she'll show her artistic appreciation by further increasing her damage bonus. Her companions help her wander far and wide, so she heals the most damaged Champions as she pulls stars from her lantern to throw at the nearest enemy.

Jang Sao has two Specializations, the first one deciding on increasing her damage buff depending on the Wisdom or Dexterity of her companions. The second Specialization provides a choice of various bonuses to her Star Collector abilities; either increasing the effect based on how many stars she's collected in the current run, seeking out moons in addition to stars to collect on her travels, or buffing the effects of her Starry Form. This Ultimate attack causes stars, moons and planets to shoot out of her lantern and blast the battlefield with beautiful destruction!

With command over the cosmos and an artistic touch, Jang Sao will bring light and beauty to any formation!

IV. Jang Sao's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Star - Jang Sao grabs a star from her lantern and throws it at the nearest enemy, dealing one hit.

Formation Abilities

  • The Mysterious Wanderer - Jang Sao increases the damage of all Champions in formation slots with 2 or fewer adjacent slots by 400%.
  • Star Collector - Each time an enemy is defeated, there is a 1% chance it drops a star. Jang Sao collects these stars and increases the effect of The Mysterious Wanderer by 0.1% for each star collected over all adventures, stacking additively. Capped at 4 billion stacks.
  • Stellar Nursery - Every 5 seconds, Jang Sao heals the 2 most damaged Champions in the formation for 50 health.
  • Painter of Beauty - For every Pigment assigned to equipment on Champions in the formation, the effect of The Mysterious Wanderer is increased by 10%, stacking multiplicatively. Pigments can be purchased in the Thayan Enclave Shop and sometimes claimed as Season Rewards.

Specializations

Jang Sao's first specialization choice increases the primary support buff depending on the Wisdom or Dexterity of her companions.
  • Wisdom of the Ages - Jang Sao increases the effect of The Mysterious Wanderer by 100% for each Champion in the formation with a Wisdom of 13+, stacking multiplicatively.
  • Speed of Shooting Stars - Jang Sao increases the effect of The Mysterious Wanderer by 100% for each Champion in the formation with a Dexterity of 15+, stacking multiplicatively.
Jang Sao's second specialization choice provides various bonuses to her Star Collector abilities.
  • Moon Collector - In addition to collecting stars, Jang Sao collects moons. Each time an enemy is defeated, there is a 0.5% chance it drops a moon. Jang Sao collects these moons for the purpose of Star Collector, and they count as 5 stars.
  • Star Caller - Jang Sao fires 3 more stars from her lantern when she uses her Starry Form ultimate and the ultimate's damage debuff is multiplied by the number of stars shot out.
  • Night Runner - Jang Sao increases the effect of Star Collector by a percentage equal to the number of stars she has collected on the current run.

Ultimate Ability

  • Starry Form - Jang Sao transforms into her starry form for 15 seconds. She raises her lantern and stars, moons, and planets shoot out, hovering above the battlefield briefly before blasting toward random enemies and dealing 1 hit of area damage when they hit. The number of stars equals the exponent of the number of Star Collector stacks she has, plus one. Enemies affected glow and take 100% additional damage for the duration of the ultimate.

V. Jang Sao's Epic Equipment

Slot 1: Mysterious Wanderer
Slot 2: Star Collector
Slot 3: Stellar Nursery
Slot 4: Painter of Beauty
Slot 5: Wisdom of the Ages and Speed of Shooting Stars
Slot 6: Ultimate Cooldown

Idle Champion Spotlight: Thellora
Posted in Idle Champions.

"May the mountains hide you so only light may find you."

When the ground rumbles and dangers threaten the peace, The Luma are always ready to face whatever menace has arisen. Thellora is a member of this esteemed regiment, motivated to lead her fellow centaurs into protecting the community. No evil can outrun her, or her sword!

I. Thellora

Thellora belongs to an all-female regiment known as the Luma. These fifty-three centaurs are diverse, but unified in that each possess a distinctive golden right eye. The centaurs believe these individuals are chosen by their god, Callessa, to be devoted guardians and trained warriors. With their divine connection and martial prowess, they protect their land, embracing their unique gifts with unwavering dedication.

Thellora is a Support, Tanking, and Speed Champion who will charge her way through your next adventure! She boosts the damage of champions behind her and bolsters their health like a true tank, and these boosts increase when she is unable to finish off her foe. The choice you make with which feats you assign is particularly important, as her feats also affect her adjacent allies! Once unlocked, she takes her place in Slot 1 next to Bruenor.

II. Thellora's Stats

Race: Centaur Alignment:Lawful Neutral
Gender: Female Pronouns: She/Her
Age: 27 Affiliation: None Class: Paladin

STR: 16 DEX: 12 CON: 13
INT: 11 WIS: 8 CHA: 17

Slot: 1 (Bruenor)

III. Thellora's Design

After a successful run on A Familiar Quest Series 3 playing Misty the Will-O'Wisp, we were thrilled to bring Alicia Marie back to craft a brand new Champion! Her busy schedule includes being a professional costume artist and maker, actor, and TTRPG performer on shows like Children of Éarte. Now she's crafted Thellora for our game, as well as her appearance on Idle Champions Presents: Fatebreaker!

Some female centaurs born within the vicinity of Callewood bear a single, striking golden eye. This signals they have been selected by their god to become trained warriors and guardians. As one of those fifty-three chosen, Thellora has spent her life learning all the skills needed to face threats wherever they may appear. With her armor and weapons always ready, and a pocket full of candies for her sweet tooth, she's ready to charge into any battle!

Thellora would rather Rush through the easier encounters so she can get to the real challenge, so she'll help the formation skip over the early part of an adventure. As she leads this charge forward, she'll prepare for more difficult encounters by boosting the damage of those in the column behind her, and increasing that even more if her hooves and blade fails to kill her enemy. The rest of the formation are bolstered from her health and healing boost, and adjacent Champions will enjoy the benefits of her assigned feats.

Depending on who has joined her in battle, Thellora can Specialize in increasing the damage of specific types of heroes. She can focus on boosting those with low strength, helping Speed Champions, or offering that bonus to Female and Non-Binary Champions. And when necessary she can call upon The Light of Mount Tura to illuminate her stampede across the battlefield, inspiring her allies to do more damage as she knocks back and stuns her enemies!

Thellora knows that bravery is being scared to die but continuing to fight, and her paladin might and heroic presence will encourage everyone in the formation onward!

IV. Thellora's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Windsong's Strike - Thellora moves up to the closest enemy and rears up, knocking them back with her hooves and dealing 1 hit. She then strikes the next closest enemy with her blade, dealing 1 hit.

Passive Ability

  • Plateaus of Unicorn Run - Thellora gains a Rush stack for every 10 areas she completes in an adventure, and these stacks persist through resets. When Thellora kills her first enemy in an adventure, she spends X Rush stacks to skip to area X+1, and her Rush stacks are reset to zero. The highest area that can be skipped to is your current favor exponent for the campaign/event. Thellora gathers all the rewards (including gold) from bosses skipped in this fashion, but nothing from normal monsters.

Formation Abilities

  • Strength of the Luma - Thellora increases the damage of Champions in the column behind her by 100%.
  • Radiance of the Sky Cents - Thellora increases the health of all other Champions by 25% of her max health and any healing effect on those Champions is increased by 25%.
  • Paladin's Resolve - Each time Thellora attacks and doesn't kill an enemy, she increases the effect of Strength of the Luma by 15% until the area changes, stacking multiplicatively and capped at 100 stacks.
  • Feats to Spare - The effects of feats assigned to Thellora also apply to all adjacent Champions. Note that feats that buff her formation abilities have no effect when applied to other Champions.

Specializations

  • Defender of the Meek - Thellora increases the damage of Champions with a STR of 12 or less by 31% for each Champion in the formation with a STR of 12 or less, stacking multiplicatively. Buffs apply to the pre-stack value.
  • Vanguard of the Quick - Thellora increases the damage of Speed Champions by 27.5% for each Speed Champion in the formation, stacking multiplicatively. Buffs apply to the pre-stack value.
  • Callessa's Blessed - Thellora increases the damage of Female and Non-Binary Champions by 27.5% for each Female and Non-Binary Champion in the formation, stacking multiplicatively. Buffs apply to the pre-stack value.

Ultimate Ability

  • The Light of Mount Tura - A sunbeam illuminates Thellora as she charges across the screen, attacking enemies in a wide line, dealing 1 hit, knocking them back a short distance, and stunning them for 5 seconds. For the next 15 seconds, her right eye glows with a golden light, increasing the damage of all Champions by 400%.

V. Thellora's Epic Equipment

Slot 1: Global DPS
Slot 2: Global Health
Slot 3: Strength of the Luma
Slot 4: Paladin's Resolve
Slot 5: Defender of the Meek, Vanguard of the Quick, and Callessa's Blessed
Slot 6: Ultimate Cooldown

III. Certainty's Design

Idle Champions fans will remember the wonderful Jasmine Bhullar as the creator of our March charity familiar, Isra the Infernal Horned Toad. Now we have the pleasure of working with her again on a full Champion! She's an accomplished actress, content creator, Twitch livestreamer, TTRPG performer and Game Master. The most recent PAX West showcased her skills performing for Acquisitions Incorporated and Seattle By Night, and she passes along TTRPG tips and musings in her new show Bronze Dragon Inn.

The Secretarian fills an important interpersonal role in any Acquisitions Incorporated franchise. They are a master of assessing the strengths and weaknesses of others, and then using that information to gain the most value out of them for the company. No one is better at convincing others to do what they want than Certainty Dran. The expert Secretarian's Advice she offers gives Champions in front of her the confidence to do more damage, and if she's working with other Acq Inc or "C" Team Champions then that damage as well as their gold find will be even bigger. Keep her around as she'll increase her effectiveness as you thoroughly finish adventures with her, and when she completes her Employee Evaluations she'll give bonuses if your team has high marks!

Certainty has an obvious soft spot for her father Omin Dran, so she'll help him recruit more Champions of Tymora in the formation. She also loves to support her "Uncle" Jim Darkmagic, and will use the royalty payments from using Jim's Magic Missile as her basic attack to help boost his damage. People who collaborate with Certainty are inspired by her to work smarter and harder, and her Specialization choice will focus that development time into either Intelligence or Charisma. Finally it's not uncommon to need to deal with angry customers, which is why her toy airship is always ready to enlarge and strafe across the battlefield with a barrage of canon fire!

With the force of personality to convince anyone to follow her brilliant tactical advice, Certainty is the ideal employee in any franchise!

IV. Certainty's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Jim's Magic Missile - Certainty fires two magic missiles at random targets.

Formation Abilities

  • Secretarian's Advice - Certainty increases the damage of Champions in the row in front of her by 100%.
  • Reboot Expert - Certainty increases the effect of Secretarian's Advice by 100% each time she has been in an adventure for at least 250 areas when it is reset. This stacks additively and persists through resets.
  • Financing Rounds - Certainty increases the effect of Secretarian's Advice and your Gold Find by 1% for each level on Acquisitions Incorporated or "C" Team Champions in the formation, stacking additively. Each Champion's contribution caps at 1000 levels after their last available upgrade.
  • Dad and Uncle Jim - Certainty helps her father Omin by increasing the damage of Champions of Tymora adjacent to her by 200%, and she helps her "uncle" Jim Darkmagic by increasing his damage by 200% due to royalty payments for using his spell.
  • Employee Evaluations - Certainty assesses the average score of her preferred ability (INT or CHA) of the Champions in the column in front of her and increases the damage effect of Secretarian's Advice by 200% for each full point over 13, stacking multiplicatively.

These monsters don't count towards quest progress or drop gold.

Idle Champion Spotlight: Astarion
Posted in Idle Champions.

"I've no objection to being nice, of course. Once I have the power to bend others to my will."

Most people would be horrified to be infected with a Illithid tadpole, and do everything they could to get it removed. But Astarion finds the powers and benefits it offers irresistible, and is keen to learn how to control the parasite. He's hungry for freedom, and will use his considerable charm and sharp blades to get it!

I. Astarion

Astarion prowled the night as a vampire spawn for centuries, serving a sadistic master until he was snatched away by the Mind Flayers. Now he can walk in the light and has the chance at a new life, but how long can he keep his past buried?

Astarion is a support and gold find Champion who likes to sink his teeth into tough problems. As a rogue, he knows how to outflank his foes, increasing the damage of Champions on the edge of the formation. If that includes him, he'll help the rest of your formation recharge their ultimates just a bit faster. Once unlocked, you can find this high elf in Slot 10 opposite Tyril.

II. Astarion's Stats

Race: Elf (High) Alignment: Neutral Evil
Gender: Male Pronouns: He/Him
Age: 350 Affiliation: Absolute Adversaries Class: Rogue

STR: 8 DEX: 17 CON: 14
INT: 13 WIS: 13 CHA: 10

Role: Support, Gold Find

Eligible for Patrons: Mirt, Vajra, Strahd

Slot: 10 (Tyril)

III. Astarion's Design

Much of the pre-release excitement around Baldur's Gate 3 from Larian Studios has included clips of Astarion. He's charismatic and funny, but also self centered, and that offers a wonderful variety of interactions players can have with him!

Astarion doesn’t run from a fight, but he doesn’t charge straight into the thick of it, either. This rogue thrives when striking enemies from the shadows, appearing behind them for a Sneak Attack. He can Specialize in aiding Champions who also prefer to Outflank enemies, increasing the damage of those either at the top or bottom of each column. The more Champions there are in the formation with a mind flayer tadpole in their brain, the larger his Outflank bonus becomes. And if he's just used his Ultimate attack, that bonus increases even more!

Two hundred years ago, Astarion was a successful, if corrupt, magistrate in Baldur's Gate. He's very familiar with the benefits of Generational Wealth, so the older the Champions are in the party, the greater his gold find increase will become. If he wants to continue to boost the amount of money coming in, he can Specialize in becoming a Thief. If he'd rather go the Arcane Trickster route, he'll increase his Outflank damage for every Wizard, Rogue, or Absolute Adversaries affiliation member in the formation. Or he can focus on his attacks on the battlefield, using his Assassin skills to deal more damage.

When the thirst for blood becomes too great, Astarion can quickly leap to the battlefield and attack the monster with the most health. His vampiric bite will deal Ultimate damage, and he'll fully heal all his wounds. When this Ultimate attack activates, if he's buffed by his own Outflank ability, he'll help the rest of the formation by reducing their active Ultimate cooldowns!

This rogue vampire spawn with a silver tongue is hungry for power, wealth, and freedom. And Astarion will work together with a party of Champions to achieve all three!

IV. Astarion's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Sneak Attack - Astarion disappears and quickly pops in the right side of the screen and throws a dagger at a random enemy dealing 1 hit. If the enemy was attacked in the last 3 seconds, Astarion deals bonus damage equal to 1 second of BUD-based damage.

Passive Abilities

  • Vampire Spawn - Astarion counts as "dead" for the purposes of effects that care about dead Champions, but "alive" for all other purposes.

Formation Abilities

  • Ceremorphosis - Your formation gains one Ceremorphosis stack due to the mind flayer tadpole in Astarion's brain. Astarion increases the effect of Outflank by 100% for each Ceremorphosis stack, stacking multiplicatively.
  • Generational Wealth - Astarion increases the gold find of the formation by 1% times the total age (in years) of all Champions in the formation.
  • Well Fed - After using his Sanguine Hunger Ultimate, Astarion's Outflank is increased by 400%. This effect can stack (multiplicatively) up to 5 times, with stacks resetting when changing areas.

Idle Champion Spotlight: Lae'zel
Posted in Idle Champions.

"You'd do well to observe more and question less."

No one knows more about Mind Flayers than the Githyanki. They have trained to aggressively hunt down those horrific aberrations wherever they are found, and Lae'zel is one of their fiercest warriors; deadly, pragmatic, and focused on getting the job done. With an Illithid tadpole in her brain, Lae'zel will stop at nothing to get it removed before ceremorphosis turns her into her worst nightmare.

I. Lae'zel

Lae'zel is a ferocious Githyanki warrior, mighty even by the standards of her mind flayer-hunting kind. Faced with transforming into the very monster she's sworn to destroy, Lae'zel must prove herself worthy of rejoining her people – if they don't execute her first.

Lae'zel is a Support, Speed, and DPS Champion that can complete areas early when other Champions are defeating enemies. She increases the damage of Champions in her column, and her specialization choice defines what type of fighter she is. Once unlocked, you can find this Githyanki Fighter in Slot 2 opposite Celeste.

III. Lae'zel's Design

We've been very excited to gather our party and venture into Baldur's Gate 3, and it's been wonderful to work with the fine folk at Larian Studios to gather Lae'zel into our formation! As one of the first companions that you'll meet, interactions with Lae'zel can have a prominent effect on the course of the game. Adding her to your Idle Champions formation offers the opportunity to work with her deadly skills in a different way!

Lae'zel is fierce, strong, and very goal-oriented. She focuses on completing her tasks with brutal efficiency, and increases the damage of all Champions in her column to help with that task. This restlessness makes her get Straight to the Point, gaining an Impatience stack when someone else defeats an enemy. When her Impatience is high enough she'll push the formation forward and immediately completing the current area, as long as it's not a Boss area. She's determined to remove the mind flayer tadpole from her brain, increasing her damage bonus for every Champion in the formation who are also infected. Her agitation grows if she doesn't kill her enemy right away, so she'll rush forward quickly to strike again. And nothing makes this Githyanki more vicious than seeing her Favored Foe: aberrations! Just spotting one will increase her damage bonus so they can be destroyed as quickly as possible.

Specializing in a particular fighting style refines the tactics Lae'zel uses in battle. As a Champion she'll focuses on increasing the chance and power of her Critical Hits. She can use Battle Master maneuvers to cause enemies who survive her attack to become distracted, letting another Champion do even more damage to finish them off. Or she can alter the way her basic attack works by becoming an Eldritch Knight. Most of the time Lae'zel focuses on her Greatsword, but this specialization lets her add Magic Missiles to her attacks! Finally she can leap onto the battlefield and attack a group of enemies with a psionic shockwave, and if this Ultimate attack doesn't kill them then those that survive are left stunned!

Lae'zel will impatiently end areas early when her allies do most of the killing, but her brutal attacks will speed up as she fights enemies that are difficult to kill!

IV. Lae'zel's Abilities

Basic Attack

Lae'zel has two base attacks. She generally attacks with her Greatsword attack, but her Eldritch Knight specialization changes her base attack to War Magic.
  • Greatsword - Lae'zel moves up to the closest Monster and attacks all nearby enemies with a swing from her Greatsword.
  • War Magic - Lae'zel moves up to the closest Monster and attacks all nearby enemies with a swing from her Greatsword, then immediately casts magic missiles at 3 random targets.

Passive Abilities

  • Critical Hit - Lae'zel's base chance to Critical Hit is 20%.

Formation Abilities

  • Lethal Coordination - Lae'zel increases the damage of all Champions in her column by 100%, including herself.
  • Ceremorphosis - Your formation gains one Ceremorphosis stack due to the mind flayer tadpole in Lae'zel's brain. Lae'zel increases the effect of Lethal Coordination by 100% for each Ceremorphosis stack, stacking multiplicatively. Future Champions will be able to add more Ceremorphosis stacks.
  • Straight to the Point - In non-boss areas, whenever an enemy is defeated by anything other than Lae'zel, she has a 100% chance to gain an Impatience stack. When she has 17 Impatience stacks, complete the current area and reset the Impatience stacks to the current Ceremorphosis count. Stacks persist when changing areas.
  • Aberration Hunter - Aberrations are Lae'zel's favored foe. Every time an Aberration spawns, Lae'zel's Lethal Coordination is multiplicatively increased by 100%, stacking up to 4 times the Ceremorphosis stack count and resetting when changing areas. There is a 33% with each wave in a non-boss area that an extra Mind Flayer spawns.
  • Ferocious Warrior - If Lae'zel attacks and any of her targets survive, her base attack cooldown for her next attack is reduced by 4 seconds.

Specializations

  • Champion - Increase Lae'zel's Critical Hit chance by +20% and Critical Hit damage by +100%.
  • Battle Master - When Lae'zel hits an enemy and they survive, the enemy is distracted and the next Champion (other than Lae'zel) that hits them deals an additional 4 seconds of BUD-based damage.
  • Eldritch Knight - Lae'zel now casts Magic Missile immediately after attacking with her Greatsword, firing a missile at 3 random targets.

Ultimate Ability

  • Psionic Leap - Lae'zel psionically leaps into the middle of the enemies and attacks all close by enemies with a psionic shockwave attack, dealing 1 hit of ultimate damage. Enemies that are attacked and survive are Stunned for 5 seconds.

Idle Champion Spotlight: Vin Ursa

"Did anyone see how cool that was?!"

Some of the most deadly folk in Wildspace are also the most knowledgeable about the dangers travelers could encounter. That's why having a bounty hunter like Vin Ursa on your side is extremely helpful. If you need someone with the skills and information needed to get any job done, then this Plasmoid is the one you want to hire!

I. Vin Ursa

Vin Ursa is one of the deadliest bounty hunters in Wildspace. Raised by a community of Autognome thieves and trained by a former Xaryxian assassin, Vin is an expert at completing dangerous jobs. To keep her skills honed, she spends much of her off time in the Arena of Blood. If there's one thing you should hope for in Wildspace, it's to avoid ending up on the wrong side of her L.A.S.E.R. sight.

III. Vin Ursa's Design

Creating a new CNE original character is an opportunity to stretch our D&D muscles, while also crafting someone who can help fill the gaps in our roster. Our Content Designer, Treavor Bettis, knew that we needed more evil and female Champions as well as races that have not appeared in our formations yet. With those specifications in mind, he crafted a plasmoid fighter/rogue who tries her best to be cool and suave. While her skills and abilities make her appear composed and effortlessly awesome, her personality is more exuberant and bubbly.

As a renown bounty hunter, Vin Ursa has traveled all across Wildspace, and is so comfortable among the stars that she can be used in any Light of Xanyxis adventure or variant. Being successful at this job requires knowing as much about your target as possible, so she'll study the monsters in the current adventure to add them to her roster of Favored Foes. This means everyone in the formation does extra damage against them, and they drop more gold when defeated. Vin Ursa's first Specialization increases the damage of Champions in either the Front Deck or the Rear Deck. Those in the Deck she has chosen will get an extra bonus to damage the more Favored Foes Vin Ursa is tracking. And because she's excellent at Contract Negotiations, using a Bounty Contract while she's in the formation will increase her Deck Specialization damage bonus even more!

A lone hunter can be dangerous, and Vin Ursa's L.A.S.E.R. attack skills are formidable. But she knows that working with a team can bring down even more dangerous prey. Her second Specialization decides what kind of team she will support with a damage bonus, either Good, Neutral, or Evil Champions. With her Ultimate she blasts an enemy, and if she crits she'll make that enemy type one of her Favored Foes so the rest of the team can help take the target down!

Vin Ursa has built her renown fighting some of the most terrifying creatures this side of the Abyss, and has a long list of Favored Foes to help your formation do the same!

IV. Vin Ursa's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • L. A. S. E. R. - Vin Ursa fires a shot from her relay and deals one hit to a random enemy.

Formation Abilities

  • Bounty Hunter - Vin Ursa picks a random monster type from a monster in the current adventure as her Favored Foe for the current adventure. Favored Foes drop 100% extra gold and all Champions deal 100% damage to them.
  • Vicious Vantage - Vin Ursa increases the effect of your Deck specialization by 100% for each Favored Foe she has, stacking multiplicatively.
  • Contract Negotiations - Whenever you use a Bounty Contract with Vin Ursa in the formation, Vin Ursa increases the effect of your Deck specialization by 25% until the end of the current adventure, stacking multiplicatively. Caps at 100 stacks.

First Specialization

Ultimate Ability

  • Target Acquisition - Vin Ursa fires at a random enemy dealing one hit of ultimate damage with a 20% chance to crit, increases additively by buffs to crit chance. III. Commodore Krux's Design

As the captain of the Second Wind, Commodore Krux has spent many years proudly traversing Wildspace as a fighter and mercenary. He's made many friends and connections, as well as had multiple clashes with astral elves, throughout all of his travels. While he's worried that his glory days are long behind him, he's still enthusiastic about sailing his ship towards adventure!

Most of Commodore Krux's efforts are focused on boosting All Hands On Deck! This well traveled Giff is an expert on Wildspace, so he can be used in any Light of Xaryxis campaign adventure or variant despite any restrictions. For every adventure, variant, and Patron variant you have completed in Light of Xaryxis, he increases the effect of his damage boost, as well as raising the health of all Champions in the formation. Commodore Krux can lead an assortment of formations, so his Specializations help him tailor his support depending on his crewmates. If he wants to focus on his column and the rear-most column, he can knock back his targets while boosting the effects of All Hands On Deck! With a formation filled with magic users, he will increase the damage of those with a magic base attack. Or he can offer damage boosts every time a Favored Foe is defeated. Commodore Krux has a pair of Flintlock Pistols always ready to fire, and when a bigger boom is needed he'll toss a Force Grenade into the fray for an explosion of ultimate damage!

III. Strongheart's Design

The noble adventuring party known as Valor's Call was founded by Strongheart, and he alone determines who can become a member of this prestigious group. They have a long history in Dungeons and Dragons lore, with the most recent appearance in The Wild Beyond the Witchlight helping the party battle against the League of Malevolence. This epic paladin doesn’t worship any deity, but instead devotes himself to the ideal that the world can be spared from evil by those who have enough courage to stand against it.

Strongheart may be the leader of Valor's Call, but that doesn't mean he takes the spotlight. He is fully committed to supporting his companions whenever he can. Any Champion adjacent to him will benefit from his healing, as well as have their damage boosted. He has an increased chance to score a Critical Hit, and when it lands, he'll improve his boost he gives to companions' damage and healing! Whenever there is an active Season, Strongheart increases the rate his formation adds to any season quest progress.

Part of being a good leader is the ability to work with a variety of people, and his Specializations buff his main damage boost depending on the type of Champion in your formation. If you have a team filled with good aligned Champions, pick Valor's Call. When a Season is active choose A Just Quest to increase his support according to your Season Level. Or Strongheart can temporarily join the most populous affiliation in the formation and boost their power by becoming an Honorary Member. Sometimes the best way to support the team is to leap into action, and with the sentient longsword Steel at his side, Strongheart will fearlessly attack the closest foe. If a powerful enemy approaches, he will cast his favorite spell to Command: Yield! This will stun that evildoer so all attacks can do additional damage!

Strongheart is prepared to sacrifice himself for the greatest good, but with his help everyone will survive and triumph over any encounter!

IV. Strongheart's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Steel - Strongheart attacks the closest enemy with his sword, Steel, dealing one hit.

Passive Abilities

  • Critical Hit - Strongheart's base chance to Critical Hit is 20%.

Formation Abilities

  • Justice Needs Champions - Strongheart increases the damage of all adjacent Champions by 100%.
  • Seasoned Knight - Season Quest progress made by Strongheart's party is increased by 100%.
  • Courage to Stand - Heal champions affected by Justice Needs Champions for 2 health per second.
  • Righteous Might - Whenever Strongheart lands a critical hit, for the next 20 seconds he:
    • Increases the damage of Justice Needs Champions by 400%.
    • Increases the healing amount of Courage to Stand by 100%.
    • Reduces the base attack speed cooldown of himself and Champions affected by Justice Needs Champions by 0.5 seconds.
This ability can trigger multiple times, with the damage bonus and healing stacking multiplicatively and the cooldown stacking additively.

Specializations

  • Valor's Call - Strongheart increases the damage bonus of Justice Needs Champions by 100% for each good Champion in the formation, stacking multiplicatively.
  • A Just Quest - Strongheart increases the damage bonus of Justice Needs Champions by 12.5% for each Season Level you have gained in the current Season, stacking multiplicatively.
  • Honorary Member - Strongheart gains the affiliation(s) of the most populous affiliation(s) in the formation, and increases the damage bonus of Justice Needs Champions by 150% for each Champion from the affiliation(s) (including himself, now), stacking multiplicatively. If two affiliations have the same number of members in the formation, then he gains both affiliations and counts both affiliations for the buff.

Ultimate Ability

  • Command: Yield! - Strongheart moves forward and Commands the enemy with the most health to Yield, stunning it for 6 seconds. While it is stunned, all attacks against the enemy deal additional 15 seconds worth of BUD.

Idle Champion Spotlight: BBEG
Posted in Idle Champions.

Behold the evil architect behind everything! The horrific lich surrounded by zombies who has been responsible for all the terrible things that The Awful Ones have...

...no, not familiar? Never seen him before? Then it's time for you to witness, and maybe this time remember, the Big Bad Evil Guy!

I. BBEG

BBEG is the Big Bad Evil Guy, a Drow necromancer who believes immaculate planning will always lead to success. Unfortunately his constant failures contradict this conviction. BBEG likes to monologue and taunt his opponents, leaving his summoned zombies to engage directly in combat.

BBEG is a support and speed Champion that chews the scenery so much he breaks through the 4th wall. As the Big Bad Evil Guy of the Awful Ones campaign, this necromancer stands back and lets his less intelligent zombie minions do the hard work. His strength lies in being able to railroad the Champions through to more exciting parts of the adventure. Once unlocked, you can find this Drow necromancer in Slot 3 opposite Nayeli.

II. BBEG's Stats

Race: Elf (Drow) Alignment: Lawful Evil
Gender: Male Pronouns: He/Him
Age: 500

Eligible for Patrons: Mirt, Strahd

Slot: 3 (Nayeli)

Dungeons & Dragons BBEG Marketing Gif

III. BBEG's Design

Every Dungeon Master wants to craft a story that is entertaining and engaging. But what happens when your players stop paying attention? Pat, the DM of the Awful Ones from 1 For All, is understandably frustrated by this lack of recognition. Despite his best efforts crafting an extremely powerful and memorable antagonist for his campaign, no one seems to recall who BBEG is, or be challenged by him in any battle.

As the sworn enemy of the Awful Ones, BBEG will follow them into any adventure that any of them are eligible for. He uses his Chill Touch to strike at the most healthy enemy on the field, and summons shambling zombies to attack anything they come across. The Awful Ones provide a great source of fresh corpses for his undead army, so the more of them there are in the formation, the faster he can summon his minions. BBEG, believing himself to be the smartest, strategically surrounds himself with less intelligent minions to boost his own perceived brilliance as the Evil Overlord, increasing the damage of Champions with an Intelligence of 12 or less.

BBEG wants to get the adventure over with as quickly as possible, so he'll increase his damage bonus for each potion that is active, and reduce the next area's quest requirements if the formation plows through the current area quickly enough. His Specializations will further boost that damage buff depending on the types of companions he is surrounded by. Fill the formation with Evil Champions and pick Powergaming, or Champions with a total ability score of 78 or less to choose Min-Maxing, or use a bunch of Lawful Champions and pick Rules Lawyering. If that still isn't fast enough, he will appeal to his eldritch lord Balgronuuth for the ultimate power to summon two zombies at a time instead of just one!

Show the other Champions just how epic and incredible BBEG can be, and maybe they'll remember him the next time he joins the formation!

IV. BBEG's Abilities

Basic Attack

  • Chill Touch - BBEG conjures a spectral hand over the enemy with the most health and touches it, dealing one hit.

Passive Abilities

  • Awful Nemesis - As the sworn enemy of the Awful Ones, BBEG is eligible for any adventure that any of them are eligible for. However, they still don't remember who he is.

Formation Abilities

  • Evil Overlord - BBEG increases the damage of all Champions with an Intelligence of 12 or less by +100%.
  • Homebrew - BBEG increases the damage bonus of Evil Overlord by 100% for each active potion, stacking multiplicatively.
  • Rise, My Minions! - Every 10 seconds BBEG creates a plodding zombie that appears in front of the front-most column and slowly moves across the screen from left to right. It takes 30 seconds for a zombie to plod from its spawn point to the right-side of the screen where it despawns. Zombies persist with area changes. Enemies near the zombie take 0.2 second worth of BUD-based damage per second.
  • Sources of Corpses - The time it takes for Rise, my Minions! to summon a zombie is reduced by 2.5 seconds for each Awful Ones affiliation member in the formation, and the damage bonus of Evil Overlord is increased by +25% for each summoned zombie, stacking multiplicatively, with buffs applying to the pre-stack value.
  • Railroad - If the current area is completed (for the first time) in 5 seconds or less, BBEG reduces the next area's quest requirements by 25%.

Specializations

  • Powergaming - BBEG increases the damage bonus of Evil Overlord by +200% for each Evil champion in the formation, stacking multiplicatively and applied multiplicatively.
  • Min-Maxing - BBEG increases the damage bonus of Evil Overlord by +150% for each Champion with a total ability score of 78 or less in the formation, stacking multiplicatively and applied multiplicatively.
  • Rules Lawyering - BBEG increases the damage bonus of Evil Overlord by +100% for each Lawful champion in the formation, stacking multiplicatively and applied multiplicatively.

Ultimate Ability

  • Balgronuuth's Undead Horde - Balgronuuth's symbol appears in the air for 30 seconds. While the symbol is in the air, every time Rise, my Minions! summons a zombie, it summons two instead of one.
