Idle Champions: Farewell WebGL
Posted in Idle Champions.

Welcome Champions.

We're here to announce some bittersweet news for our WebGL players as we move toward the long-running future we're envisioning for Idle Champions. As of Wednesday, December 8th, 2021 at 12 PM Pacific Time, Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms will no longer be able to be played via your browser on Kongregate, Armor Games, and CNE Games. But fear not, we’re working hard to ensure you can take your progress to another platform of your choice (details below). We’re working to make this transition as easy and seamless as possible while understanding that this process is challenging for everyone involved. As thanks for sticking with us through this process, we've crafted a unique giveaway for all Kongregate/Kartridge, Armor Games, and CNE Games players that includes $150 of in-game items.

Before we get started, the bulk of the information below only affects players who play via their web browser on Kongregate Games, Armor Games, and CNE Games. This does not affect players on any of our other platforms. With regards to players who play via the Kartridge client, you'll still be able to play on Kartridge, and that is an option for migration. As you continue to read below please note that when we say WebGL, we mean in-browser game players on Kongregate Games, Armor Games, and CNE Games.

We launched the WebGL in-browser version of Idle Champions two and a half years ago. Doing so required us to create a complete parallel version of the game using browser-compatible technologies, specifically WebGL and Javascript. This allowed us to accomplish our goal of having as many players as possible to join us for a grand tour of Faerûn, and we are immensely thankful for everyone who has joined us over the past few years.

Unfortunately, as many of our WebGL players know, the rollout and continued live service of what is essentially a second version of the game has not been without issues. As we looked into resource loads and our ability to live-service the game into the future, we determined that it is no longer viable for us to continue porting Idle Champions to WebGL platforms.

To that end, we've made the very difficult decision to sunset the WebGL version of the game at 12:00 PM Pacific Time, on Wednesday, December 8th, 2021. From that point onward, it will no longer be possible to play Idle Champions via your browser on Kongregate, Armor Games, or CNE Games. However, your progress will not be lost! We’ll be able to migrate your Idle Champions account to another platform that runs the Unity version of the game (Steam, Epic Games, Kartridge client, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, iOS, Android, or via a new downloadable client on CNE Games). Read on to learn more about this transition.

Giveaway

We'd like to apologize for the challenges our players on WebGL have encountered as we continued to do our best to keep the two versions of the game up to date. As a way of thanking you for sticking with us through the bumps we've encountered, we've crafted a unique giveaway for all Kongregate/Kartridge, Armor Games, and CNE Games players that includes over $150 of in-game items. All accounts on those platforms that were created before 3 PM Pacific Time Thursday, October 20th will be credited with the items below when you next log in. Accounts created on those platforms after this date will not receive the login reward.
Upon logging in on your WebGL platform, your account will be credited with six extra Champions: Orkira (Slot 1), Gromma (Slot 3), Briv (Slot 5), Krull (Slot 6), Birdsong (Slot 9) and Avren (Slot 11), along with 16 Gold Chests and 2 Shiny equipment cards for each of them. Additionally, you will be credited with two unique Familiars: the Gelatinous Cube, and a Pixie riding a Corgi.
These items will migrate with your account when you move to a new platform.

Purchasing

As we transition off of WebGL platforms, it is still possible to play Idle Champions on those platforms, but we hope you'll migrate your account sooner rather than later. Purchasing with real money (or KREDS on Kongregate) is available until Monday, November 22nd at 12 PM Pacific Time, at which point it will no longer be possible to make purchases with your WebGL account. In-game currency, DLC, progress, and the log-in reward noted above will all be migrated to your new platform when you migrate your account (details below). Platform-specific purchasing credits (e.g. Kongregate KREDS) will not migrate to the new platform, so we suggest using those prior to migrating your account. As of Wednesday, December 8th at 12 PM Pacific Time, it will no longer be possible to play Idle Champions on WebGL platforms, but it will still be possible to migrate your account.

To help plan your purchasing as you migrate your account, we want to be as transparent as possible about our upcoming sales. Read our Halloween Sale blog post here for more details on a sale we're launching across most of our platforms starting on Thursday, October 28th. All purchases, game progress, and in-game items will migrate with your account.

Migrating Accounts

It is preferable that the account you are migrating to is a new account, or if not a new account, an account that you are okay with replacing all progress/items with your WebGL accounts progress/items. Please note that it is not possible to merge accounts.

Once you're ready to migrate your account to a new platform, there are a few steps which we've outlined below depending on your source and target platforms.
I play on: Kongregate, Armor, or CNE Games in a browser
I want to play on: Steam, Epic Games, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, iOS, Android, or via the new downloadable client on CNE Games.

    1. Please log into your WebGL platform account (Kong, Armor, CNE Games). Write down your account-specific MIGRATION CODE.
    2. Download and load Idle Champions on your new chosen platform.
    3. Open the settings menu and select the 'WebGL Migration' button.
    4. Enter the MIGRATION CODE in that dialog. That’s it, you’re all set!

I play on: Kongregate in browser
