Dog Days of Summer 2017 Edition
Posted in Bush Whacker 2.

Lazy, Hazy Days of Summer

The residents of the Commons want to close out summer with a blast! That big old event field sits there empty most of the time anyways. Help them build an awesome temporary pool to chill out beside. Once you've completed all three building quests, the residents will come in and there will be 3 turn-in stations where you can bring Towels, Sunscreen and Life Rings to get event tokens for buying this year's custom items!

Nate's New Puppies!
Plus, foster an adorable puppy for Nate. It seems he's accidentally ordered too many dogs (again!!) and needs your help to look after them temporarily. Choose one of the 3 to help him out! Once you equip your dog, Nate has some daily quests for you to do to keep the ball of energy that is your puppy occupied. Love the look of the dog? Permanently adopt it with a simple purchase!

New for 2017!
We've added a whole new area of fun for you to experiment with. Check out the Companion Racing Track once it becomes available, and you'll be able to bet on pet races! You can only win the prizes once per day though.

Later on in the event, you'll need to help an NPC train their unlikely companion to participate in the race!

Updated Event! Littlefoot's Big Adventure

Now that the sun is out in full force, the Great Outdoors is calling you for your annual Crusaders camping trip. Grab the old bivouac, tent, or yurt and get out there and enjoy that fresh air.

Last year we introduced you to Ranger Rayna and Littlefoot. This time you've introduced us to the new Tier 2 Crusaders! Well, you the community have named them after answering the call to help celebrate our second anniversary! The winning names are: Beary McBearFace and Penny the Park Planner.

The Littlefoot's Big Adventure event runs from today through to August 15th at Noon PDT. For those players who haven't unlocked them already, this is your chance to add both Ranger Rayna and Littlefoot to your roster.

The two new Tier 2 Crusaders, Beary and Penny, will be available to recruit after you've completed all the Tier 1 objectives and if you have the talent "Doing it Again" purchased.

New Crusader: Beary McBearFace.

At level 150, Beary unlocks Controlled Burn which lights a random monster on fire every 2.5 seconds. The monster stays on fire until it dies, taking 20% more damage from all sources.

At level 300, Beary unlocks Stomp Out Campfire which increases his DPS addtively +100% for each enemy on fire from Controlled Burn.

The second new Tier 2 Crusader is Penny the Park Planner.

New Crusader: Penny the Park Planner.

Once recruited, Penny unlocks Trash Pickup at level 100 where you'll automatically pick up gold and quest items after they've been lying on the ground for five seconds. Good news, the timer gets decreased with her gear!

At level 300, her ability Troupe Trooper gives all the Crusaders in the same column as Penny a +50% DPS boost.

Once you've recruited both Beary and Penny, there are three new side objectives to tackle in your quest.

New Objective: Firefighters.

In Firefighters, A random number of fire enemies spawn. They have a lot of health and do not drop gold.

New Objective: Primal Rage.

In the objective Primal Rage, only Crusaders with the DPS tag can be used to craft your formation and conquer the forest.

New Objective: Burnt Out.

The final new objective is Burnt Out. XP is replaced with 'Exhaustion.' A point of Exhaustion is earned once an hour and each point reduces hero damage by 95%. Clear the objective before your Crusaders become too tired to continue.

Equipment for all the Crusaders can be found in Silver and Jeweled Bigfoot chests.

Once again, you'll have until August 15th at Noon PDT to complete the event. Happy camping!

The Beginning: Eric and D&D

Today is Gary Gygax's birthday. As you may know, Gary created Dungeons & Dragons with Dave Arneson in 1974. In honour of Gary's birthday, I'd like to share how my lifelong love affair with this game began in 1981.

This month marks an important milestone for me... like many people, my journey to discovering Dungeons & Dragons started with theater.

Thirty-six years ago I played Kai in The Snow Queen. I was twelve years old and these performances were the culmination of a theatre camp for kids offered by Bastion Theatre in Victoria.

Eric as Kai (center)

During this camp two of the other kids said, "Have you played this game called Dungeons & Dragons?". They brought in the AD&D books, we rolled up characters and played during our lunch breaks.

From our first game, I was blown away. I knew that this game was fantastic and that I wanted to DM. From that point, I DMed games almost exclusively for the next twelve years. I played as often as I could and by university my love of fantasy RPGs heavily influenced my course selections.

Eric aged 12! He looks like he has walked off the set of Stranger Things!

Some of Eric's cherished Dragon Magazines
(plus a bonus Traps book to kill PCs!)

When I graduated from university, I started my first company and had very little time for anything outside of work. Then I fell in love, got married and had children, plus sold the company to IBM twelve years later.

As my kids got older, a friend of mine (Eshu) mentioned that he had recently started playing D&D with his kids. He said they were having a great time. So in 2008, I got the newest D&D books (4e) and started playing with my kids. The first time my kids rolled initiative, I was so overcome with emotion that I almost cried.

Fast forward nine years and not only have I continued playing D&D, but my kids have picked up the hobby and now play in their own games with their friends.

Film, TV, and stage star Joe Managaniello's Champion announcement.

And then the icing on the cake... we are getting to make a D&D game at Codename! There are so many of us at our company with long histories of playing D&D that it is a treat to be able to pour our love for D&D into one of our games.

We are really looking forward to sharing the Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms with you (Check out the official site at: www.IdleChampions.com).
