Idle Champions: Wintershield 7
Posted in Idle Champions.

Wintershield sees a celebration of maps in the Realms, symbolizing our paths through the new year. As part of this year's tradition, the Champions have purchased a map from a Waterdeep street vendor. Then it started talking...

Wintershield 7 introduces Wyll, the Human Warlock from Baldur's Gate 3, and brings back two Heroes of Baldur's Gate-aligned Champions: Imoen the Human Rogue/Wizard, and the Viconia DeVir the Drow Cleric of Shar! Players have until Monday, January 1st, 2023 at 12 PM Pacific to complete their Wintershield 7 unlocks and objectives.

Wyll

From a scion of a famed Baldurian house to a life of adventure on the road, Wyll’s life as the monster hunter called the Blade of Frontiers has made him one of the beating hearts of the Sword Coast. While he has done great deeds for the Coast’s people, the source of his power remains secret. The cambion Mizora drew Wyll into a warlock’s pact in a moment with many lives at stake, and cursed him with the duty of hunting her enemies. Mizora only asks Wyll to sacrifice devilish creatures to her, but a cambion’s ambitions are ever fickle, and Wyll wishes to escape the pact before its price grows cruel.

Wyll is a Support Champion ready to help whoever he can, so he supports all heroes from the most represented race, class, or affiliation in the formation. He is also cursed with a mind flayer's tadpole, providing further boosts with all of the Absolute Adversaries. This Human Warlock can be found in Seat 12 opposite Arkhan. You can find out more in the Wyll Champion Spotlight.

Year Seven Variants

Idle Champion Spotlight: Shadowheart
Posted in Idle Champions.

"Everyone has to suffer, it's a fact of life."

How far would you go to serve your deity? Shadowheart was willing to lose her memories and undertake a perilous mission, all in devotion to the Goddess of Darkness and Loss. But an Illithid tadpole has made her journey much more complicated. Fortunately she has a new group of Champions to help her on her quest!

I. Shadowheart

A devoted cleric of Shar, Shadowheart agreed to have her memories wiped as part of a holy mission. Now its sole survivor, she must deliver a powerful relic back to her kin in order to win Shar's love and have her memories restored – but all the while, she is tormented by strange, painful magic that she struggles to understand.

Shadowheart is a Support and Healing Champion who joins her fellow Baldur's Gate 3 companions in fighting the transformation into a Mind Flayer. Once unlocked, you can find this Half-Elf Cleric in seat 6 opposite Asharra.

II. Shadowheart's Stats

Race: Half-Elf Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Gender: Female Pronouns: She/Her
Age: 48 Affiliation: Absolute Adversaries Class: Cleric

STR: 12 DEX: 14 CON: 14
INT: 10 WIS: 16 CHA: 10

Role: Support, Healing

Eligible for Patrons: Vajra

Seat: 6 (Asharra)

III. Shadowheart's Design

As a pragmatic cleric, Shadowheart focuses on straightforward buffs and excels at healing. Champions within two slots of her have their damage increased, and because she also carries a Mind Flayer tadpole in her brain, she can tap into its power to boost her damage buff even more. She keeps the two columns ahead of her healed all while she calls mystical lunar flame down to damage her enemies. But Shadowheart has a tricky skill she can use to create a copy of herself. This illusory duplicate hides next to the Champion with the highest Dexterity, and offers buffs and heals to nearby Champions similar to Shadowheart herself.

Shadowheart can choose one of three Specializations to give an extra boost to her already impressive buffs. One choice dramatically increases her buff to the Champions in front of her if her illusory duplicate stands by her side. Another selection boosts her support if her duplicate is far from her in the formation. The final option means Shadowheart stops attacking and focuses on helping others do damage, so she'll cast Guidance on the biggest damage dealer in your formation. Repeatedly. The mysterious relic that Shadowheart carries can also be called upon when things are looking dire. It flies into the air and sends out a pulse of power, striking back enemies and making the formation immune to damage for a moment!

This daughter of darkness may be guarded with her past, but she will use all of her cleric skills to support her fellow Champions on their mission!

IV. Shadowheart's Abilities

Basic Attack

Shadowheart has two normal attacks: her base attack (Sacred Flame) and one that is enabled by a specialization choice (Guidance).
  • Sacred Flame - Shadowheart raises her mace into the air and casts a spell, briefly engulfing a random enemy in mystical lunar flame, dealing 1 hit.
  • Guidance - Shadowheart increases the damage of your BUD-setting Champion's next attack by 200%, stacking multiplicatively up to 5 times.

Formation Abilities

  • Twilight Trickery - Shadowheart increases the damage of Champions within two slots of her by 100%.
  • Ceremorphosis - Your formation gains one Ceremorphosis stack due to the mind flayer tadpole in Shadowheart's brain. Shadowheart increases the effect of Twilight Trickery by 100% for each Ceremorphosis stack, stacking multiplicatively.
  • Light In The Dark - Shadowheart heals Champions in the two columns ahead of her for 10 every second.
  • Invoke Duplicity - Shadowheart creates an illusory duplicate of herself which hides in the formation and applies Twilight Trickery and Light in the Dark to Champions relative to itself with half the range as normal. The duplicate positions itself in the same formation slot as the Champion in the formation with the highest DEX score. Ties go to the Champion in the highest bench seat.

Specialization

  • Guidance - Shadowheart's base attack is replaced by Guidance. When she casts Guidance, she increases the damage of your BUD-setting Champion's next attack by 200%. Stacks multiplicatively up to 5 times.
  • Sister of Darkness - If Shadowheart's Illusory Duplicate is placed in the same slot as she is, increase the effect of Twilight Trickery by 400%.
  • Find Yourself - The effects of Twilight Trickery and Light In The Dark from Shadowheart's Illusory Duplicate are increased by 100% for each formation slot away from Shadowheart the duplicate is (following the shortest path), stacking multiplicatively.

Ultimate Ability

  • Absolute Sanctuary - Shadowheart raises her artefact, which flies into the air and sends out a circular pulse, dealing a massive hit to all enemies and knocking them back a short distance. In addition, your Champions are immune to all damage for 10 seconds or until you change areas, whichever is shorter.

V. Shadowheart's Epic Equipment

Slot 1: Global DPS
Slot 2: Twilight Trickery
Slot 3: Ceremorphosis
Slot 4: Light in the Dark
Slot 5: Ultimate Attack Damage
Slot 6: Ultimate Cooldown

VI. Conclusion

Shadowheart will bring healing and support to your Champions, even through the darkness and loss of Shar. Tell us how much you enjoy her in your formations:

Idle Champions: Simril 6
Posted in Idle Champions.

Someone outside Luskan has been pillaging the food stores in advance of this year's Simril celebration. Residents are becoming worried that there may not be enough to last the long Sword Coast winter to come!

Simril 6 introduces Warduke, the legendary mercenary for hire human fighter! Simril also brings back Yorven Springpaw, the resident murder bunny Harengon Barbarian Druid, and Lucius the High Elf Sorcerer of the High Rollers: Aerois party! Players have until Monday, December 12th at 12PM Pacific to complete their Simril 6 unlocks and objectives.

I. Warduke

Warduke's services as a remorseless killer-for-hire can be easily bought. The evil swordsman isn't terribly bright, which is why he leaves the plotting and scheming to others. He just likes to hit things with his sword.

This deadly warrior is a Tanking and DPS Champion who grows more powerful the more he swings his sword, all while inverting the positional formation abilities of the other Champions. Once you have unlocked his services, you can swap Warduke with Delina in Slot 8. For more information on Warduke and his abilities, check out his Champion Spotlight, or watch the quick video overview linked below!

Year Six Variants

  • A Figure of Action - Simril is ruined! Someone has pilfered the food supplies and the lack of calories is making everyone attack slowly! Warduke joins the formation, and can't be moved or removed. Warduke's normal attack speed cooldown is reduced by 1 seconds while all other Champions have their normal attack speed cooldown increased by 3 seconds!
    Complete Area 75

  • Yield! - Strongheart thinks you are responsible for the stolen food supplies! Warduke joins the formation, and can't be moved or removed. Only Evil Champions, Chaotic Champions, or Champions with the Gold Find role can be used. Strongheart spawns in each boss area and must additionally be defeated to progress.
    Reach Area 125

  • Strike That, Reverse It - Only specific Champions are able to save Simril now! Warduke joins the formation, and can't be moved or removed. You may only use Warduke and Champions that have positional formation abilities.

    Idle Champion Spotlight: Viconia DeVir
    Posted in Idle Champions.

There are many ways a cleric can assist their companions. While some focus on healing or offering buffs, others embrace the power to control those who would try and cause them harm. Because sometimes the best way to protect your allies is to turn your enemies into more allies!

Viconia DeVir was cast out of Menzoberranzan and house DeVir after refusing to sacrifice a child to the spider goddess Lolth. She has lived a dangerous and difficult life, and she joins the Champions at the behest of some of her acquaintances from Baldur's Gate this Wintershield!

    I. Viconia DeVir

Viconia DeVir is a devout cleric of Shar, the goddess of darkness and loss. But don't mistake her cleric powers as a sign of her working for good. She may not approve of how the Champions operate, but if the quest and the payout are worthwhile, she's here and ready to assist.

Viconia is an evil alignment buffer who can reanimate dead enemies and turn them against their former friends. She also heals, but only if you get damaged enough to make it worth her time. Once unlocked, you can find this displaced drow in Slot 5 (Calliope)

Ia. Heroes of Baldur's Gate Update

When Viconia launches on December 22nd, 2021, we will also be expanding the Champions with the Heroes of Baldur's Gate affiliation to include all Champions from the Baldur's Gate Video Game Series e.g. Viconia, Baeloth, and Jahiera. They will join the Champions from the Heroes of Baldur's Gate Comic: Shandie, Minsc, Nerys, Krydle, and Delina who are already listed as members.

    II. Viconia's Stats

Race: Elf (Drow) Alignment: Neutral Evil
    Gender: Female Pronouns: She/Her
    Class: Cleric Age: 270
    Affiliation: Heroes of Baldur's Gate

    STR: 10 DEX: 19 CON: 8
    INT: 16 WIS: 18 CHA: 14

    Role: Support, Healing

Eligible for Patrons: Mirt, Strahd, Zariel

    Slot: 5, (Calliope)

    III. Viconia's Design

Viconia DeVir is a character from the original Baldur's Gate video game, as well as Baldur's Gate II and Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear. Many of her powers, abilities, and personality were drawn from those games. We're excited to have another evil Champion joining the roster, as well as another member of the Heroes of Baldur's Gate! She may begrudgingly call Baeloth and Minsc 'friends', but the rest of the Champions are just allies that can help her accomplish her goals and earn some coin. She'll offer the other Heroes of Baldur's Gate buffs with her Cleric of Shar ability, and heal those Champions who are in dire need with Cure Medium Wounds. But her main focus during battle is seizing control of the lifeless bodies of their enemies and using Animate Dead to send them back against their former allies!

    IV. Viconia's Abilities

    Basic Attack

    • Sling — Viconia slings a stone at a random enemy.

    Formation Abilities

    • Cleric of Shar — Increase the damage of Evil Champions and Heroes of Baldur's Gate Champions by 100%.
    • Animate Dead — When a non-boss enemy is killed there is a 20% chance that Viconia will seize control of its lifeless body and turn it against its former allies for 10 seconds, stopping their movement. While it is re-animated, it deals 20% of your BUD to nearby enemies each second. Multiple enemies can be animated at once, each of which will do its own damage, but despawn during area transitions.
    • Cure Medium Wounds — Heals allies that are under 50% health for 20 health per second for 5 seconds.

    Specializations

    • Holy Power — Increase the effect of Cleric of Shar by 100% for each column away from the back-most column she is, stacking multiplicatively.
    • Begrudging Respect — Cleric of Shar now affects Neutral champions instead of Evil ones. Heroes of Baldur's Gate are still covered under this new plan.
    • Turn Undead — Increase the chance for Animate Dead to trigger by 100%.

    Ultimate Ability

    • Unholy Blight — Viconia summons a cloying miasma of cold and greasy darkness that damages all enemies and increases the odds of any enemies killed by it triggering Animate Dead by 50%.

    V. Viconia's Epic Equipment

    Slot 1: Global DPS
    Slot 2: Cleric of Shar
    Slot 3: Animate Dead
    Slot 4: Cure Medium Wounds
    Slot 5: Ultimate Attack Damage
    Slot 6: Ultimate Cooldown

    VI. Conclusion

Bring another Hero of Baldur's Gate to your formation this Wintershield, and enjoy Viconia turning your enemies against each other! If you have feedback, let us know in a Community Q&A or Champion feedback post on the Idle Champions Subreddit, on the Steam forums, or on the Official Idle Champions Discord!

    Idle Champions: Simril 5
    Posted in Idle Champions.

Someone outside Luskan has been pillaging the food stores in advance of this year's Simril celebration. Residents are becoming worried that there may not be enough to last the long Sword Coast winter to come!

Simril 5 introduces Yorven Springpaw, resident murder bunny Harengon Barbarian Druid. Simril also brings back Lucius the High Elf Sorcerer of the High Rollers: Aerois party, and Krull, the Tortle Death Cleric of Tiamat from Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus. Players have until Monday, December 20th at 12PM Pacific to complete their Simril 5 unlocks and objectives.

    I. Yorven Springpaw

When Yorven came across the Witchlight Carnival he managed to convince the owners to bring him on board. When the Witchlight Carnival returned to the Feywild years later, Yorven moved on, seeking his childhood home - and the hags who banished him.

As a barbarian druid, Yorven has plenty of muscle and power to bring to the Champion roster, and he uses his massive harengon legs to leap into battle with speed and ferocity! He's a DPS and Support Champion covered in magical tattoos and scars and is ready to scrap when you swap him with Tyril (Slot 10) to add him to your formation!

    II. Yorven's Stats

    Race: Harengon Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
    Class: Barbarian/Druid Gender: Male
    Age: 39

    STR: 20 DEX: 14 CON: 14
    INT: 8 WIS: 13 CHA: 12

    Role: DPS, Support

Eligible for Patrons: Vajra, can become eligible for Zariel with a feat

    Slot: 10, (Tyril)

    III. Yorven's Design

Our own sweet murder bunny. As the latest CNE Original this dark and dramatic seeker of vengeance has an endless flurry of epic monologues at the ready. When the Harengon became a playable race in Dungeons & Dragons, our Stream Executive Producer Dylan Wilks was inspired by the powerful bonus action jump ability to find out how dangerous he could make a hopping tank. Drawing on some of the newest character-building options available, he crafted a beastial barbarian who could cross entire battlefields in one giant leap! Once the Champion stats and basic backstory were created, our Content Designer Erin M. Evans began crafting the voice of Yorven, giving him his melodramatic flair.

For more information on Yorven and his abilities, check out his Champion Spotlight!

    Year Five Variants

    • Adventure Variant 1: Raven Swarm — Yorven Springpaw begins in the formation. He can't be moved or removed. Three Ravens appear in each area. The ravens drop no gold, nor do they count towards quest progress. Every 5 areas an additional raven spawns in the swarm.
Getting to know Yorven: If you choose the Hunger for Blood specialization, once Yorven defeats an enemy, he'll jump to another enemy to attack them as well!
      Complete Area 75.

    • Adventure Variant 2: Fangclaw — In each boss area, a vicious rabbit boss enemy appears. It must also be defeated in order to progress. Gold Find is reduced by 99%. Only Champions with DEX of 14 or higher can be used.
      Complete Area 125.

    • Adventure Variant 3: Raven Queen's Memories — Yorven Springpaw is haunted by his time in the shadowfell. A Wraith escorts the formation, increasing the base attack cooldown of each adjacent Champion by 4 seconds. If Yorven is in the formation, the increase is only 2 seconds instead. Enemies move 200% faster.
      Complete Area 175.

    IV. New DLC

Dungeons & Dragons Icewind Dale Prudence

Also launching with Simril is the Icewind Dale Prudence Skin & Feat Pack! This pack includes an unlock for Prudence, the new Icewind Dale Prudence Skin, Prudence's Spell Master Epic Feat, which increases her damage by 120%, and 7 Gold Prudence Chests with 1 Guaranteed Shiny Equipment Card.

For information on previous years' variants, check out the Simril 4 blog. And if you have feedback, let us know in a Community Q&A or Champion feedback post on the Idle Champions Subreddit, on the Steam forums, or on the Official Idle Champions Discord!

    Idle Champion Spotlight: Lucius Elenasto
    Posted in Idle Champions.

Lucius Virion-Elluin Elenasto is a High Elf Sorcerer, an Arcane Chromat making his debut during Simril 4. Lucius joins his companions on the Idle Champions roster, the Heroes of Aerois; Aila, Qillek, Sentry, and Nova V'Ger.

    I. Lucius Virion-Elluin Elenasto

Dungeons & Dragons Lucius Elenasto High Rollers

Lucius Virion-Elluin Elenasto was born to high nobility. He thought he knew what he was getting into when he joined the Heroes of Aerois, but then he met his first cow. Dreadful, evil creatures.

Lucius is slowly coming out of his nobility shell as he continues to learn the true value of comradery, friendship, and a world without barriers.

Lucius is played by Chris Trott, a member of The High Rollers D&D crew, based in the UK. The High Rollers stream each week at the High Rollers Twitch page. For more info on Nova, the High Rollers crew, and the homebrew world of Aerois created by professional dungeon master Mark Hulmes, check out the High Rollers Aerois wiki. Lucius is the final member of High Rollers: Aerois to join Idle Champions! With the team complete, this also brings an update to Nova V'Ger's Aerois Synergy. Check her Champion Spotlight for the details.

Lucius is a DPS Champion with a colorful style. As a trained Arcane Chromat, Lucius uses the colors of the world around him to fuel his magical power, focusing on acid and cold spells. When you want to add Lucius to your formation, you can swap him with Minsc (Slot 7).

    II. Lucius' Stats

    Race: Elf Alignment: Lawful Neutral
    Class: Sorcerer Gender: Male
Age: 76 Affiliation: Heroes of Aerois

    Dungeons & Dragons Lucius

    III. Lucius' Design

It's always fun to work closely with a creator to make their character come to life, and just like the rest of the High Rollers: Aerois cast, Chris Trott was no exception. Chris provided us with a depth of material to draw from, and we were especially delighted to incorporate Lucius' unique style of fighting using his heterochromia, with alternating Acid Splash and Ray of Frost attacks, and further with Arcane Chromat - Acid and Arcane Chromat - Cold debuffs combining in an explosion with Elemental Adept.

Lucius is the final piece of the Aerois team, and with Aerois Synergy he is buffed by his teammates. A glass cannon, Lucius's unique fighting style causes area of effect devastation to his enemies, but he falls apart if harmed in combat. A young, sheltered noble, Lucius has a fabulous style, our artists were delighted to work on Lucius' colorful wardrobe and a really gorgeous skin that Aerois fans may recognize!

    IV. Lucius' Abilities

    Basic Attack

Lucius alternates between two attacks, both of which are augmented by formation abilities to add additional effects to damaged enemies.
    • Acid Splash — Lucius attacks the furthest enemy with Acid Splash, dealing damage.
    • Ray of Frost — Lucius attacks a random enemy with Ray of Frost, dealing damage and also damaging all enemies along a line between him and the enemy.

    Formation Abilities

    • Arcane Chromat - Acid — Enemies damaged by Acid Splash take 10% of Lucius's damage every second. This damage over time lasts until the enemy dies or is removed by Elemental Adept. The damage caused by this ability can be buffed by upgrades (including Aerois Synergy), feats, and equipment.
    • Arcane Chromat - Cold — Enemies damaged by Ray of Frost are slowed by 50% for 10 seconds and take 100% more damage from all attacks while affected. The damage increase can be buffed by upgrades (including Aerois Synergy), feats, and equipment.
    • Elemental Adept — When an enemy is affected by both of Lucius' Arcane Chromat abilities they are stunned and frozen in place for 3 seconds. After 3 seconds they explode with acid, taking damage. This also consumes both Arcane Chromat debuffs on the enemy and spreads the Arcane Chromat - Acid debuff to all nearby enemies who don't already have it. Each time the ability causes an enemy to explode it increases Elemental Adept's stacks by 1. Stacks cap at 100 and reset to 0 when changing areas. The damage done is equal to Elemental Adept stacks over 5 seconds (rounded up) worth of Arcane Chromat - Acid damage over time damage, plus any specialization bonus.
    • Aerois Synergy — Lucius contributes to the Aerois Synergy Pool as follows: 100% per stack of Elemental Adept. The damage of Arcane Chromat - Acid is then increased by 25% of the total Aerois Synergy Pool.

    Specializations

    • Dichromancy — Lucius focuses on increasing the damage dealt by the combination of his two elements. Increase the explosion damage of Elemental Adept by 25%
    • Elemental Master — Lucius specializes in increasing his maximum Elemental Adept stacks by 50(and therefore his contribution to Aerois Synergy).
    • Lingering Chill — Lucius focuses on maintaining some of his Elemental Adept stacks when changing areas, increasing the consistency of his Aerois Synergy contribution. Only half of Lucius' Elemental Adept stacks are cleared when changing areas.

    Ultimate Ability

    • Prismatic Spray — Eight multicoloured rays flash from Lucius' hand in a cone shape. Each enemy in the cone takes damage and receives both the Arcane Chromat - Acid and Arcane Chromat - Cold debuffs, triggering Elemental Adept.

    V. Lucius' Legendary Equipment

    Slot 1: Self DPS
    Slot 2: Self DPS
Slot 3: Arcane Chromat - Acid
Slot 4: Arcane Chromat - Cold
    Slot 5: Ultimate Damage
    Slot 6: Ultimate Cooldown

    VI. Conclusion

    Idle Champions: Simril 3
    Posted in Idle Champions.

Holidays are a time for togetherness; a time to get back together with family and friends and celebrate together. At least, that's what holidays are supposed to be about...

Someone outside Luskan has been pillaging the food stores in advance of this year's Simril celebration. Residents are becoming worried that there may not be enough to last the long Sword Coast winter to come!

Simril 3 introduces Krull, the Tortle Death Cleric of Tiamat from Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus, and brings back Warden, the corrupted Warforged Warlock, and Dhadius the Scarlet, an arrogant Human Wizard. Players have until Monday, December 9th at 12PM Pacific to complete their Simril 3 unlocks and objectives.

    Dungeons & Dragons Krull

    New Champion: Krull

Krull is a death-cleric of Tiamat who swore allegiance to Arkhan the Cruel after being bested by him in combat. He's Arkhan's alchemist, his experimenter, his torturer... Always surrounded by the dead, Krull wears a white painted face mask that makes him look undead in an effort to confuse and strike fear in his opponents.
Krull is a Support and Gold Find Champion, dedicated to serving his master, Arkhan the Cruel. He inflicts plagues on his enemies, debuffing them with various ailments. When you want to add Krull to the formation, you can swap him with Asharra (Slot 6).

For more information about our latest Champion, check out the Idle Champion Spotlight: Krull dev blog!

    Dungeons & Dragons Warden

    Year 2 Champion: Warden

Forged to be the jailer for a prison filled with eldritch horrors in a faraway land, Warden became corrupted by the monstrosities they sought to keep locked away. Now they journey at the behest of an otherworldly master, seeking souls for the insatiable Dark Hunger to corrupt and feast upon.
Warden is a DPS and Support Champion, corrupted by their Hexblade, the source of their otherworldly strength. At the same time, it is also from this Hexblade that the Elder Evils of Realmspace have laid their claim to Warden, infesting their body with eldritch malignancy. They use their Hex ability to curse enemies, debuffing them and causing them to take additional damage for each stack of the Hex curse they are afflicted with.

When you want to add Warden to your formation, you can swap them with Jamilah (Slot 11).

For more information about our Warden, check out the Idle Champion Spotlight: Warden dev blog!

    Dungeons & Dragons Dhadius

Year 1 Champion: Dhadius the Scarlet

Dhadius is a mage of legendary status and acclaim (at least, in his own mind), who sees everyone else as intellectual worms. Being an egomaniac, he seeks out esoteric lore and rare magical secrets, so he may know things that the 'common fools' do not.

Dhadius hails from Luskan in the north, where he is a member of the Arcane Brotherhood, an infamous group of wizards. He joined them only recently and hasn't been taken as seriously by the others as he thinks he should be. He's determined to let it be known far and wide that he is a wizard to be respected and feared.

Dhadius is an arrogant Wizard and Support Champion. His Skill Empowerment ability increases the damage of nearby Champions - if they are intelligent enough.

When you want to add Dhadius to your formation, you can swap him with Calliope (Slot 5).

    Year Three Variants

    • Spoiled Staples — You'll need barrels if you want to cart all this food back to town before it spoils! At the start of the adventure, two barrels on wagons take up slots in the formation.
      Reach Area 75.

    • Master Plaguebringer — Krull begins in the second column of the formation. He can be moved, but can't be removed from the formation. Non-Plagued enemies deal 100% more damage (additive) and move 10% faster (additive) for each enemy on the screen that doesn't have a Plague on them (including themselves).
      Reach Area 125.

    • The Creeping Chill — Every 5 areas, the temperature drops by 5 degrees. For each change in temperature, the enemies get stronger, increasing their health and damage by 100% (additive).
      Reach Area 175.

    Year Two Variants

    • Unlucky Hunters — Local beasts do not take kindly to the Champions trespassing upon their land. Beasts deal increased damage, and their hides are thickened like armor.
      Reach Area 75.

    • Frostbitten — The thickness of the falling snow in outdoor areas increases as the adventure goes on. Champions on the outside of the formation deal less damage the further they go due to the cold weather.
      Reach Area 125.

    • Unspeakable Horrors — Warden begins in your formation. Starting in the first area and continuing every 25 areas after, you lose a formation slot to creeping eldritch horrors. For each tentacle taking up a slot in the formation, Warden's damage is increased.
      Reach Area 175.

    Year One Variants

    • Frightful Weather — In areas where it is snowing (excluding boss areas), the party takes damage every second.
      Reach Area 75.

    • Light in the Darkness — Several slots in the formation are taken up by floating magical torches.
      Reach Area 125.

    • A Wise Endeavour — Only champions with a wisdom score of 13 or higher – and of course, Dhadius – may be used.
      Reach Area 175.

    Idle Champion Spotlight: Krull
    Posted in Idle Champions.

The malevolent black spire of twisted metal stands before you, ascending hundreds of feet into the crimson sky. Bristling with charred skulls impaled on iron spikes, the tower's apex splits into five narrow spires reaching upwards like a dragon's claws. An Ancient White Dragon colored gray with ash and soot circles the air above the tower. As you approach, the spiked iron portcullis yawns open like the mouth of a dragon.

Hunched over and wrapped in decaying violet robes, a muscular tortle shambles out of the darkness, flanked on either side by armor-clad undead. The tortle's shell is covered in pyramid-like spikes, each carved with draconic runes. Its face is painted in the visage of a gleaming white skull.

"If you wish to meet with my master," rasps the tortle, "you will need to convince me first. I am Krull, and I serve the Champion of Tiamat, Arkhan the Cruel. What business do you have here?"

Today we are excited to finally reveal Krull, the Tortle Death Cleric of Tiamat coming this week with our third annual Simril event. Some of you may recognize Krull from Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus or from some of the awesome art posted online. Let's dive right in and see how this evil tortle shapes up, shall we?

    Who is Krull?

Krull is a death-cleric of Tiamat who swore allegiance to Arkhan the Cruel after being bested by him in combat. He's Arkhan's alchemist, his experimenter, his torturer... Always surrounded by the dead, Krull wears a white painted face mask that makes him look undead in an effort to confuse and strike fear in his opponents.

    II. Krull's Stats

    Race: Tortle Alignment: Lawful Evil
Class: Cleric (Death Domain) Gender: Male
    Age: 40 Affiliation: none

    STR: 20 DEX: 14 CON: 15
    INT: 12 WIS: 20 CHA: 12

    Eligible for Patrons: Mirt, Vajra

    III. Krull's Design

When it came to designing Krull, we were lucky to have the direct assistance of his creator, Joe Manganiello. Joe really helped us to distill down the essence of who Krull is and what his relationship is like with Arkhan the Cruel, and more importantly, how Krull prefers to operate. This led us down the path of creating a dark and twisted character who specializes in experimentation and creating different plagues while also supporting his master.

Now that his design has come together, Krull is a Support and Gold Find Champion, dedicated to serving his master, Arkhan the Cruel. He inflicts plagues on his enemies that can increase the amount of gold they drop, cause them to take more damage, and cause damage they take to also deal damage to other enemies around them. Krull is potent in formations focused on evil Champions, and is especially powerful when combined with Arkhan the Cruel. When you want to add Krull to the formation, you can swap him with Asharra (Slot 6).

    IV. Krull's Abilities

    Basic Attack

    • Krull's Maul/Necrotic Touch — Krull attacks a random enemy with his Maul. Once Draconic Plague is unlocked, this upgrades to Necrotic Touch. At that point, if the enemy he attacks doesn't have all three types of Draconic Plague on them, he infects them with one of the plague strains they do not already have. Otherwise, he adds two stacks to each plague on them (if possible; respecting their individual caps).

    Formation Abilities

    • Draconic Plague — Krull applies a draconic plague to the next enemy to spawn. Plagues have a random effect (see below). This ability has a 5 second cooldown. Because of the Virulent Strain ability, enemies can have multiple Plague debuffs on them, including multiple debuffs of the same type. Multiple plague debuffs of the same type stack multiplicatively.

      • Plague: Pilfer — An enemy infected with this plague drops 5% more gold for every 3 seconds it stays alive (additively), capping at 10 stacks (50%). Starts at 1 stack.
        • Enemies drop 5% more gold immediately
        • 10% after 3 seconds
        • 15% after 6 seconds
        • etc.

      • Plague: Pain — An enemy infected with this plague takes 20% more damage every 3 seconds it remains alive (additively), capping at 10 stacks (200%). Starts at 1 stack.
        • Enemies take 20% more damage immediately
        • 40% after 3 seconds
        • 60% after 6 seconds
        • etc.

      • Plague: Traitor — An enemy infected with this plague causes all enemies near it to take damage equal to 10% of the damage it itself receives. This amount is increased for every 3 seconds it remains alive (additively), capping at 10 total stacks (100%). Starts at 1 stack. Does not cascade -- damage caused by Plague: Traitor on other monsters does not trigger it. Note this is very beneficial to Arkhan and other single-target attackers as it provides them with a potential AOE.
        • Nearby enemies take 10% of damage received immediately
        • 20% of damage taken after 3 seconds
        • 30% of damage taken after 6 seconds
        • etc.

    • Virulent Strain — When an enemy with a Plague on it dies there is a 10% chance that its Plague will transfer to another enemy that is not quite so dead. In this way, enemies can have multiple Plague debuffs on them, including multiple debuffs of the same type. Multiple debuffs of the same type stack multiplicatively. This ability is buffed by feats, but not by any normal upgrades or equipment.

    • Arkhan's Army — Krull increases the damage of all "evil" Champions in the formation by 100%. This effect is decreased by 10% (additively) for "each" good Champion in the formation. Buffs to this ability increase both the base buff percentage and the decrease for each "good" Champion.

    • The Master's Call — Krull increases the damage of Arkhan the Cruel by 400%, reduced by 75% (multiplicatively) for each slot away from Arkhan he is greater than one.
      • Examples:
      • 1 slot away = 400%
      • 2 slots away = 100%
      • 3 slots away = 25%
      • etc.
    • Dark Order Synergy — The effect of Krull's Arkhan's Army ability is increased by 100% (multiplicative) for each Dark Order member adjacent to Krull. This ability can be buffed by upgrades, feats, and equipment. Buffs apply to the post-stack value. This ability was added in September 2020, with the arrival of Torogar Steelfist, Arkhan the Cruel's bodyguard, and another member of the Dark Order.

    Specializations

    • Plague Focus: Pilfer — Increases the effect of Plague: Pilfer by 100%.

    • Plague Focus: Pain — Increases the effect of Plague: Pain by 100%.

    • Plague Focus: Traitor — Increases the effect of Plague: Traitor by 100%.

    Ultimate Ability

Corrupted Ghouls — Krull summons four corrupted ghouls which spawn behind the formation and rush through it towards the nearest enemies. When a ghoul reaches an enemy it explodes, dealing damage in a small radius and leaving behind a pool of necrotic green goo that damages enemies that move through it. These goo pools last for 30 seconds.

    V. Krull's Equipment

    Slot 1: Global DPS
    Slot 2: Plague: Pilfer
    Slot 3: Plague: Pain
    Slot 4: Arkhan's Army
    Slot 5: Ultimate Damage
    Slot 6: Ultimate Cooldown

    VI. Conclusion

We've been wanting to include Krull in Idle Champions since the very first time we set our eyes on his character art, and we're excited to have had another chance to work with Joe to bring this heavy metal tortle to life! We hope you like him!

Feel free to send us feedback on via the Idle Champions Subreddit, Steam forum, or the Idle Champions Discord!
